Imgjald the Crownless Jarl
Summonable Deep North giant boss: 100 000+ HP, two phases, five damage types, trophy, power and lore greatsword. Very hard for vanilla Valheim: best played with gear and progression mods.
About this mod Author’s original text
Imgjald, the Crownless Jarl
A Deep North boss you summon yourself. A frost giant of about 7.4 m (roughly four times a player), clad in
dark ice, with a crown of horns and a greatsword taller than a man.
Difficulty warning. This fight is tuned above vanilla Valheim: 100 000 health (more in groups), five
damage types and a faster, harder second phase. With vanilla gear and food it is a very long and punishing
fight. It is recommended to play it with other mods that add stronger gear, skills or progression
(for example Epic Loot, MMO/leveling or class mods), or to lower Health and DamageMultiplier in the config.
*When the Jarl renounced his crown, it shattered against his own blade. The ice remembers the oath its
master broke, and so it does not melt even in the fires of Muspelheim.*
Summoning
- Craft Jarl's Frozen Heart at the Workbench: 5 Frost core, 10 Bloodgold, 3 Jotun warrior trophy,
1 Sacrificial blood (from the Deep North boss). Configurable.
- Use it from the inventory or hotbar. The Jarl rises about 16 m in front of you after a few seconds.
- It refuses to work inside dungeons, within 40 m of player-built pieces or wards, or while the Jarl is
already alive.
- The boss never damages buildings (configurable).
- If every player leaves the battlefield (150 m from the summoning spot) for 90 s, the Jarl leaves and the
heart is left where it was crushed. This also covers logging out mid-fight.
The fight
- 100 000 health for one player. Valheim's own group scaling (each extra player within 100 m adds 30%,
up to 5 players) makes it tougher for groups.
- Resists pierce and lightning, very resistant to frost, immune to poison and spirit. Fire and melee work best.
- Phase 1 (ice and steel): a sweeping cleave that releases a frost nova, an overhead slam with a shockwave,
a charge, a rain of ice spikes and a lightning storm.
- Phase 2 (at 50% health): the ice shatters, the Jarl is invulnerable for 5 s, then moves 30% faster and
hits 25% harder. The cleave now burns, the slam leaves poison pools, and meteors and poison rain join the
ice spikes and lightning.
- Ice spikes and meteors land where you stood when they were called: keep moving.
Rewards
- Imgjald trophy.
- Shard of the Crown: two-handed sword, 250 slash, 40 blunt, 110 frost; the secondary attack releases a
frost nova. Can be re-forged at the Black forge from the trophy (also used for repairs).
- Stone of the Crownless (Hammer, Misc): place the trophy on it to take the Crownless Jarl power:
frost, fire, poison and lightning damage taken is reduced (Resistant) for 300 s, cooldown 1200 s.
Configuration
BepInEx/config/com.tokir.imgjald.cfg (admin-only, synced from the server): health, scale, speed, damage
multipliers, phase-2 threshold, speed and invulnerability, summoning recipe, base check radius, spawn
distance, leave range and time, whether buildings can be damaged.
Multiplayer
Everyone needs the mod (same minor version). Phase and leave timers are stored with the boss, so every player
sees the same fight and the boss behaves correctly when players come and go.
Notes
- The boss is built from Valheim's own Jotun rig and animations, armoured with vanilla meshes and effects at
runtime. The mod ships no game assets.
- Built with AI assistance (Claude).
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
