⚠️ Important Notice

Following the release of Valheim 1.0, the mod structure has been reorganized. Some items and build pieces have been redistributed between mods, while all internal names have been changed.

Make sure to delete the configuration file generated by pre-Valheim 1.0 versions of this mod before launching the game.

🔄 New Mod Structure

As part of this restructuring:

  • Hunter Legacy is now focused exclusively on ranged classes. All Assassin armor, weapons, throwing knives, and related content have been removed from the mod.

This content will return later as part of a separate melee-focused mod.

  • All Decor Pieces from Hunter Legacy have been moved to Artisan Mastery.
  • Crafting materials such as Processed Leather have been moved and are now part of Artisan Mastery.

Hunter Legacy

Hunter Legacy follows a structured progression of hunter armor and weapons — starting in the Black Forest and advancing through each biome.

At the heart of this journey lies a full path for archers and crossbowmen, supported by dedicated crafting stations and equipment designed for ranged mastery.

Within the Core progression, armor sets are divided into two main paths:

  • Archer Sets — specialized armor designed for bow combat.
  • Crossbowman Sets — dedicated armor designed for crossbow combat.

🎯 Ranged Weapons

Hunter Legacy introduces a diverse arsenal of bows and crossbows, with different weapon types and progression paths designed to expand ranged combat throughout the biomes.

🏹 Bow Types

All bows in Hunter Legacy are now divided into three distinct categories, each offering a different approach to bow combat with its own custom animations:

  • Light Bows — built around mobility and rapid consecutive shots, allowing you to maintain a fast pace in combat.
  • Medium Bows — follow the classic bow approach, offering familiar and straightforward draw-and-release combat.
  • Heavy Bows — feature a multi-stage draw system. After reaching the normal full draw, the bow can be held longer to progress through additional draw stages, dealing significantly more damage with each stage reached.

In addition, all bows now feature their own secondary attacks, designed to emphasize or complement the playstyle of each weapon.

Together, these systems make bow combat more diverse, moving beyond the more uniform approach of vanilla bow gameplay.

🔗 Weapon Progression

Hunter Legacy introduces two distinct crafting paths for bows and crossbows:

  • 1️⃣ Classic Progression — you can craft independent bows and crossbows directly in each biome.

These offer unique stats, appearances, and playstyles, giving you freedom of choice at every stage.

  • 2️⃣ EVO Progression — alongside the Classic line, to forge a new bow or crossbow, you must use the previous one as a core ingredient.

This creates a true evolution chain, where each weapon carries the legacy of the last and grows in power as you advance through the biomes.

This dual system allows hunters to decide their path: switch between biome-specific crafts, each providing a fresh identity and combat experience, or commit to a single evolving weapon that grows stronger with you.

Following an EVO chain, your starter bow or crossbow from the Black Forest can ultimately evolve into a mighty endgame weapon, keeping your journey consistent and rewarding.

🤜 Wrist Crossbows

A completely new weapon type has been added — Wrist Crossbows.

These compact crossbows are worn directly on the forearm and equipped in the offhand slot, allowing you to use them alongside any one-handed weapon. A dedicated, configurable attack key lets you fire your Wrist Crossbow while keeping full access to your main-hand weapon.

By default, press Alt + Right Mouse Button or Mouse3 to perform an offhand at

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
