About this mod Author’s original text
HearthstoneMod (Valheim 1.0)
A craftable Hearthstone item. Activate it to teleport instantly to your bed
spawn point with your full inventory intact. It's a reusable keepsake, not a
consumable, with a short cooldown between uses. It never goes through
Valheim's portal system, so none of the usual portal restrictions apply
(no ore/metal blocking, no linked-portal pairing needed) - it just moves you.
How to use
- Craft one at a Workbench: 5 Fine Wood, 5 Leather Scrap, 5 Greydwarf Eye
(tunable by the server/pack owner - see Configuration below).
- Set a spawn point the normal way - sleep in or claim any bed. That's
where the Hearthstone sends you.
- Activate it - right-click the Hearthstone in your inventory, or drop
it on a hotbar slot and press your use key. You'll teleport straight to
your bed, gear and all.
- Cooldown: 10 minutes between uses by default. You keep the item
forever - it's never consumed, just wait out the cooldown to use it again.
Requirements
Needs BepInEx
and Jotunn, and
because it registers a new item/recipe, everyone connecting to the same
world needs the mod installed - it's marked EveryoneMustHaveMod, so
mismatched clients won't be able to connect. If you're playing with friends
by having one person host directly (no separate dedicated server), that host
needs it too, same as everyone else. If you run a separate dedicated server
process, install it there as well.
Configuration
After the first run, BepInEx writes a config file under BepInEx/config/
named after this plugin. Edit it while the game is closed (or with a
config-manager mod while it's running):
[General]
CooldownSeconds = 600
RequireBedSpawnPoint = true
[Recipe]
FineWood = 5
LeatherScraps = 5
GreydwarfEye = 5
Why it bypasses portal restrictions and doesn't drop your gear
Both fall out naturally from how it's built, not from special-casing:
- It never calls into Valheim's Portal/TeleportWorld system at all, so
none of the checks that system applies (linked portal required, certain
ores/metals blocked, etc.) ever run for this item.
- Valheim doesn't drop your gear on a direct position teleport - that's only
a death mechanic. This mod just moves your character; your inventory comes
with you.
Building from source
This is an open BepInEx + Jotunn mod project; the source (.cs.csproj
files) isn't included in the packaged download but is available if you want
to modify or rebuild it. In short: it's a net472 class library referencing
BepInEx, Jotunn, and Valheim's own game assemblies (from your local install -
those are never redistributed), built with dotnet build. See the project's
HearthstoneMod.csproj for the exact reference paths - they're driven by
VALHEIM_INSTALL and BEPINEX_ROOT properties/environment variables so they
can point at any install location, including a Mod Manager or
r2modman profile folder rather than the game's own top-level BepInEx
folder (mod managers commonly nest the actual active plugins folder under a
per-profile path).
If you hit a compile error after a Valheim update renamed or reshuffled an
internal field, the fix is usually small: open your own
valheim_Data\Managed\assembly_valheim.dll in a free decompiler (dnSpy or
ILSpy) - this is your own legally-owned copy, so inspecting it locally is
fine - find the closest-named current member, and update the corresponding
line in the source.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
