Hearthfolk
WORK IN PROGRESS: Hearthfolk is an early test release. Expect bugs, unfinished features, and changes between updates. Back up your world before testing.
Hearthfolk adds a shared village system to Valheim, inspired by ASKA. Place a Stone Tablet, recruit villagers from two randomly generated candidates, and build a settlement around them.
Each villager has a name, appearance, traits, skills, hunger, fatigue, health, and stamina. They eat real Valheim food, sleep in nearby beds, improve through work, and can die if a settlement is neglected.
The Hearthfolk Hammer provides the first village workstations:
- Woodcutting
- Tree planting
- Fishing
- Guarding
Workers use real tools and supplies, operate within the village, and deposit what they produce into linked containers. Guards patrol and defend the settlement. The system is designed to grow into farming, mining, hauling, crafting, and animal-care jobs later.
Villages are shared multiplayer entities. Their tablets, residents, candidates, needs, skills, inventories, beds, and work assignments persist with the world save. The server validates recruitment, permissions, costs, and inventory transfers.
Hearthfolk requires matching versions of BepInExPack Valheim and Jötunn on the server and every client. Debug builds currently make recruitment and rerolls free for testing; normal releases use configurable resource costs.
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
