HealthPulse
When your health runs low, the edges of the screen glow red and beat like a heart -
stronger and faster the lower it gets, like in many games.
Drawn under the HUD: health bar, hotbar and minimap stay clear. Works with HudLayout.
- Starts below 35 % health: a faint red tint at first, a dense red frame near zero.
- Swells softly like a heartbeat - "lub-dub", from 45 to 80 beats a minute as you weaken.
- Flashes when you take a hit at low health.
- Heartbeat sound below 15 % - experimental, off by default.
- Fades in and out smoothly; hidden while dead, sleeping, teleporting or loading.
- Drawn under the whole HUD, so bars, hotbar and windows stay clear; HudLayout doesn't
pick it up. Stays when you hide the HUD (Ctrl+F3) -
it's a warning - unless you turn on HideWithHud.
Everything is adjustable in BepInEx/config/j1ga.healthpulse.cfg or in-game with
ConfigurationManager (F1): threshold, strength, colour (e.g. for colour blindness), width,
heart rate, hit flash, sound and its volume.
Client-side only. Install it if you want the effect; other players, the host and the
server need nothing. No Harmony patches, nothing sent over the network.
Compatibility
Tested with Valheim 1.0.16, BepInEx 5.4.23.5 (BepInExPack_Valheim 5.4.2351).

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
