Summary

You have one life. All save files from the character you are playing will be deleted upon death.

  • You can enable and disable the mod in the configs. This is important in case you switch to a character you do not wish to get deleted upon death!
  • There is an option in the configs to determine if the backup files should also be deleted. By default, the backup files are deleted.
  • There is also an option in the configs to delete the world upon death. Disabled by default. Should not work in multi-player.
  • There is yet another option in the configs to escape death when receiving a last blow, which can only be triggered once in a while.... and yes, it has been fully tested but use it at your own risk.

Release notes

v1.5.0

  • Updated for full compatibility with Valheim 1.0!
  • Merciful Death cooldown is now configurable as a range instead of a fixed value.

v1.4.1

  • Merciful Death now triggers only on overwhelming damage, preventing one-shots for healthy players while remaining faithful to the one-life, high-risk design.

v1.4.0

  • If merciful death is enabled, upon triggering it, the player will be invulnerable for a total of 2 seconds (configurable). This is to prevent the player from getting an almost immediate second hit while staggered, making the mechanism useless in certain situations.

v1.3.3

  • Updated to work with the latest version of the game.

v1.3.2

  • Merciful Death will remove negative status effects such as burning or poison.

v1.3.1

  • Minor change to default values.

v1.3.0

  • Added an option to escape death when receiving a last blow, which can only be triggered once in a while.

v1.2.0

  • Added an option in the configs to determine if backups should also be deleted or not.

v1.1.0

  • Added an option in the configs to also delete the world upon death. Disabled by default. Should not work in multi-player.

v1.0.0

  • Initial release.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
