About this mod Author’s original text

Disclaimer:

Most of mods I work with are some old and outdated ones that their authors haven't updated so far to match 1.0. I am not a professional modder myself, but I am good with coding and gaming. If you experience any problems with the mods I published, you can find me in Hexium discord server by typing DMT.

HammerHotkeys

A Valheim mod that binds keys to build pieces and stations. Press a key and the hammer is equipped and the bound piece is selected for you - the placement ghost appears immediately, without opening the build menu. Especially useful for emergency situations, when you urgently need to place a workbench to start raising ground to save yourself from wolves or fulings, or when you need to quickly place a portal, then escape back to the base.

Client-side only. Works in single player and multiplayer, no server install needed.

Features

Key = Piece Binds

Configure as many binds as you like in one setting:

F6=Workbench;F7=Portal;F8=Stonecutter

Pressing a key equips the tool that contains the piece (preferring the hammer) and selects the piece, exactly like clicking it in the build menu.

Piece Name Matching

The piece name is matched case-insensitively against:

  • the prefab name (e.g. Workbench, Portal)
  • the localization key (e.g. piece_chestwood)
  • the English display name (e.g. Chest)

So Chest resolves to the wooden chest, while Reinforced Chest matches the iron one.

Availability Check

By default the mod follows the vanilla rule: pieces you have not unlocked yet are refused with a message instead of being selected. This can be disabled.

Feedback

Plays the vanilla selection sound and shows a center screen message (both optional). The build menu is left closed, but if you had it open it is closed after the selection - same as clicking a piece in the vanilla menu.

Installation

  • Install BepInEx
  • Extract HammerHotkeys.dll into BepInEx/plugins/HammerHotkeys/
  • Launch the game once to generate BepInEx/config/DMT.HammerHotkeys.cfg
  • Edit the Binds setting to your preferred keys

Compatibility

  • Client-side only - other players do not need the mod
  • No conflicts with building mods expected: it drives the vanilla selection path (Player.SetSelectedPiece)
  • Uses the legacy input API (Input.GetKeyDown), same as other maintained hotkey mods

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.

Dependencies

Install these first, or the mod will not work:
