FrostmourneHungers for Valheim
By demolishandrock.
Based on the legendary acursed blade!
The pedestal is an original carved octagonal stone dais, 1.2 m wide and 0.68 m tall, with beveled steps, a dark rune band and a blade socket. It uses a material/shader copied from an installed Valheim stone piece, replacing the unsupported Standard material responsible for the previous purple cylinder. The sword points down into the socket, with 0.25 m of its tip buried and its grip above the stone. Existing pedestal ZDOs use the new model after restart, without regenerating the world.
The working weapon prefab is cloned from the installed game's Mistwalker (SwordMistwalker) at runtime. Its original sword mesh is hidden and replaced with the embedded custom mesh. Mistwalker's native mist particle systems, lights, particle scalers, force fields and weapon trails remain; mesh-shaped emitters are redirected to the custom steel blade submesh. Fog-clearing Demister components are removed because this change requests the blade's mist visual. Neither Mistwalker's model nor its effect files are distributed in the plugin. This is an original low-poly interpretation, not Blizzard's exact model.
See model-preview.png for the revised sword geometry and pedestal-preview.png for its embedded presentation. These are geometry previews, not in-game screenshots, and do not show the runtime mist particles.
Gameplay
- One persistent pedestal per world, at a pseudorandom dry Deep North terrain position. Selection is stable for the world and additionally recorded on the host/server. Search requires Deep North across a 4 m footprint, terrain height at least 2 m above water, height variation at most 1.25 m and no vanilla location in that zone. It waits for vanilla location generation to finish. No crafting recipe, build piece or loot-table entry grants a fresh Frostmourne. Its recipe only upgrades an existing tagged sword.
- The interacting player needs 300 current health, not merely 300 maximum health. 299.999 fails; 300 succeeds. Replicated server health and exact owner health are both checked. The player must be alive and within 4 m, with an empty inventory slot. The hover prompt now only says Pull Frostmourne, without revealing the health threshold; the gate and punishment remain active.
- A rejected pull adds the named Unworthy status effect and deals a non-blockable, non-dodgeable 1000 Frost hit. Since armor/resistance/god mode can prevent that hit alone from killing, the curse explicitly finishes any survivor. The sword stays available.
- A successful pull grants one tier/quality-1 sword: 215 Slash, 120 Frost, 80 Spirit base damage. Each upgrade adds 43 Slash, 24 Frost and 16 Spirit (+20% of tier-1 damage), including improvements beyond level 4. Valheim's normal skill, resistance and attack multipliers still apply to actual hits. Durability is disabled so the singular weapon cannot become unusable.
- Frostmourne's Curse gives +10% movement speed and +25% attack animation speed while equipped in the weapon hand. The curse ends on unequip/sheathing; it is not a permanent character buff. Primary and secondary attacks use the animation clock, including hit events and recovery. Other equipment penalties/status effects can affect final movement speed. Speed patches restore their own previous multiplier and preserve freeze frames.
- Once claimed, the pedestal remains as an empty monument. The sword can be dropped, transferred, stored and recovered from a grave; the pedestal never replenishes it.
Upgrading the existing sword
Use the Upgrade tab at a fully upgraded Black Forge, level 6 (base station plus all five vanilla extensions in the verified game version) for levels 2–4. From level 4 onward, use the Forge of Potential (UpgradeStation) for further one-level, guaranteed improvements. It cannot skip levels, break the sword, reduce its level or produce a second copy. The recipe uses the game's m_noCraftOnlyUpgrade flag; the mod mutates the existing item in
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
