FPSDoctor
Client-side FPS optimization for Valheim, with special care for big bases.
- Big bases draw faster and load faster. No pieces fall while a base loads.
- AMD FSR upscaling is added to the game's own graphics settings.
FPSDoctor doesn't change the world or the gameplay for other players. It is safe on vanilla servers and when only some players have it. Every part has its own switch in the config.
What it changes
Build pieces and bases
- Faster drawing. Build pieces are drawn in shared batches by area of the base, with the same meshes, materials, LOD and shadows. Highlight, damage, wear and building work as usual.
- Fast, smooth support and collapses.
- Support is worked out for a whole building at once, with the game's own formula.
- A collapse plays out in seconds instead of minutes, without long frame spikes.
- Pieces that nothing happens to don't run the game's wear check every second.
- Bases load quickly and safely.
- Supports first. Every piece remembers its support and what it rests on. When you fly up to a base, its pieces appear from the foundation up, each one right after the piece under it. The part around you is there in 1–2 s.
- Quick load. A big base (~20 000 pieces) loads in about 13 s, with half as many heavy frames as the game's own loading. The pace drops while you fight.
- Nothing falls while a base loads. A piece whose support is still loading doesn't break. A real collapse still happens as soon as everything it depends on is there.
- Flying back to a base you just left: its support is known at once, no re-calculation.
- Distant details. Carpets, things hung on item stands, banners and similar parts disappear with distance together with the rest of the building. Vanilla left them hanging in the air.
- Hammer info. With the hammer, the hover text shows a piece's support margin and what it rests on.
- Collapse debris. Large collapses spawn fewer fragments at once.
Everything else
| Area | What it does |
|---|---|
| Weather | Storm particles (snow, ash, smoke) can't cover the whole screen any more. Ash storms and snowstorms run up to twice as fast and look the same from a distance. |
| Effects | Looping effects pause off screen and when far away and empty. Tiny far effects aren't drawn. |
| Vegetation | Grass is drawn in batches and rebuilt over several frames. Tree and grass shadows are drawn only nearby. |
| Loading the world | Objects, locations and terrain detail around you are created over several frames instead of in big bursts. |
| Scripts | Doors, animators, lava checks, physics syncs, the build menu, snapping, map pins and the object scan near bases do less needless work. |
| Memory | Less garbage, and memory is trimmed at quiet moments. |
| Blur | Motion blur and depth of field are always off, and their switches are removed from the settings (config: BlurOff). |
Off by default: hiding objects behind hills and walls (GPU / CPU occlusion). In our measurements it cost more than it saved. It can be turned on in the config (GpuOcclusion, OcclusionCulling).
FSR upscaling
Settings → Graphics → Upscaling algorithm gets:
- FSR 1.0: sharp spatial upscaling instead of the blurry bilinear stretch. It uses the game's 3D render resolution.
- FSR 3 Quality / Balanced / Performance / Ultra Performance: the AMD FSR 3.1 temporal upscaler, which also does the anti-aliasing. The mode sets the render resolution itself (shown in the list, for example "FSR 3 Quality (960p)").
The UI always stays at full resolution.
Install
Use r2modman Mod Manager (Import local mod, this zip). Or copy FPSDoctor.dll and fpsdoctor_shaders side by side into BepInEx/plugins/FPSDoctor.
Requires BepInExPack Valheim. Config: BepInEx/config/moxy.fpsdoctor.cfg.
FSR: AMD FidelityFX FSR (MIT), via the FSR3Unity port by Nico de Poel (MIT). Licenses are included.
FPSDoctor (по-русски)
Оптимизация FPS для Valheim на стороне клиента, с особым упором на большие базы.
- Большие базы рисуются и грузятся быстрее. П
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
