FoodFreezer
Pause your character's food degradation timers while standing near a lit hearth. Food buffs stop ticking down, so your meals stay fresh while you're at home base taking a break.
A Valheim BepInEx 5 plugin.
Features
- Food timers freeze only while you are standing near an Fireplace (hearth, campfire, brazier, etc.).
- Optional: also freeze while the Rested/Resting status effect is active, even away from a hearth.
- No new items, no prefab injection, no save data. Works client-side.
Requirements
- BepInExPack Valheim (installed automatically by your mod manager)
Installation
- Install through your mod manager (recommended) — it will handle BepInEx and the DLL.
- Manual: drop FoodFreezer.dll into BepInEx\plugins\.
How to use
Nothing to do — just stand within range of a burning hearth/campfire/brazier and watch your food timers stop. Move away (or let the fire go out) and they resume ticking. With FallbackToRestingBuff on, your food also freezes while the Rested buff is active.
Configuration
Config file is generated on first launch at BepInEx\config\com.foodfreezer.foodfreezer.cfg:
| Key | Default | Description |
|-----|---------|-------------|
| Enabled | true | Master toggle. |
| HearthCheckRadius | 30 | Search radius (meters) around the player for a hearth/fireplace. |
| RequireLitFire | true | Only freeze while the fire is actually burning. |
| FallbackToRestingBuff | false | Also freeze food while the Rested/Resting status effect is active. |
How it works
The plugin patches Player.UpdateFood (all overloads) with a prefix that skips food-timer updates while the local player is near a burning fire. Enabled=false disables the patch behaviour entirely.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
