FishCues
Minimal mod to add audio fishing cues for Valheim
- a plink when a fish bites the hook
- a sound plays when the hooked fish struggles
Install
Copy FishCues.dll into \BepInEx\plugins\. Needs BepInEx 5.4.2350
(BepInExPack_Valheim). One DLL, no assets, no dependencies. Client-side only, so it is safe on
vanilla servers.
Config
\BepInEx\config\online.buddycloud.fishcues.cfg, created on first launch. Restart after
editing. PlinkClip and StruggleClip accept any vanilla sound name, case-insensitive; the two
volume keys take 0 to silence one cue.
37 second demo
— play it with sound.
AI disclosure
The code, patches and docs were written by an AI coding agent running Qwen3.8-Flash-Next, served
locally by Radiance, and reviewed and tested in-game by a human. Candidate sounds were found in the
game's own asset manifest and measured before anything was played, but the sounds were picked by ear.
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
