Earendil Ship

Take the helm of any ship and fly it like Eärendil: the hull and sail fade to a shining white glow, the sail drops full and holds straight, a shield dome closes over her, the Mistlands mist draws back, and music plays while she sails the sky.

Built for Valheim 1.0.12 (network version 40).

Controls

From the helm of any ship:

| Key | Action |

|---|---|

| J | Toggle flight |

| Shift + J | Mute / unmute the ship's music for everyone |

| Alt + J | Raise / drop the shield dome |

| Ctrl + J | Turn mist clearing on / off |

| Space (hold) | Climb |

| Ctrl (hold) | Descend |

| Sail / rudder | Speed and steering, as normal |

Every action sits on one base key so a keyboard with no F-row can fly her; all four are rebindable, and the chords fire with a hand still on the rudder. Upgrading from an earlier version keeps the F10 / F11 binds already written in your config — delete those lines to pick up the new defaults.

The keys only work at the helm; pressing them anywhere else does nothing.

On takeoff the glow and music fade in and the ship builds speed gradually.

Jump and crouch are suppressed at the helm, so climbing never releases it. Everyone else aboard can jump: the ship's motion is carried under them while they are in the air, so they come down on the deck they left.

Shield

A flying ship can raise a shield generator dome at full power, with no fuel and no upkeep: it stops projectiles the way a fully fuelled one on the ground does. The dome starts down — raise it from the helm with Alt + J. No generator is visible, only the dome. It is fitted to the hull, covering the deck plus a four metre margin; set an exact radius or a different margin under [6. Shield].

Mist

A flying ship clears Mistlands mist for 70 metres around her — three and a half wisplights — set under [7. Mist].

Multiplayer

  • Flight state, mute, shield, mist clearing, the fade-in and the song's position are stored on the ship itself, so everyone running the mod sees and hears the same thing, including players who arrive mid-flight.
  • Whoever holds the helm flies the ship. Taking the helm of a ship that is already flying hands control to you.
  • Every player needs the mod, same version. Players without it see a plain ship moving through the air, and if one of them ends up owning a flying ship it falls.
  • No server-side install is needed.

Music

Put an audio file named earendil.ogg (or.wav.mp3) in BepInEx/EarendilShip/ inside your r2modman profile (create the folder). Files there survive mod updates and are not included in exported profile codes. No file means silent flight; everything else still works. OGG is the most reliable format.

Settings

BepInEx/config/goyboys.earendilship.cfg: keys, flight/climb/turn speed, acceleration, passenger jumping, glow, light, shine and fade-in time, volume, music fade-in, looping and positional audio, shield radius and height, mist clearing radius.

Diagnostics

Set Log performance = true under [5. Diagnostics] to log the mod's CPU time per hook, the audio clip's memory and managed-heap activity to BepInEx/LogOutput.log every 10 seconds (lines start with [perf]).

Caveats

  • Switching flight off high above the water drops the ship, and hard landings damage it.
  • Ctrl + J shares its modifier with the default descend key, so pressing the base key while descending toggles mist clearing. Rebind either one under [1. Keys] if that gets in the way.
  • A passenger who jumps clear of the ship's deck keeps the speed she was making, and is thrown well clear.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
