About this mod Author’s original text

DayNightRobust

This is Ezvay's DayNight, but it doesn't break on every point release of Valheim.

The original mod checks that the game is exactly version 1.0.12 and switches itself off on anything else, so every Valheim patch leaves you with vanilla 30-minute days until a new build appears. This fork replaces that check with a log warning. Everything else is Ezvay's work, unchanged. All credit for the mod itself goes to them.

What the mod does

  • Real, configurable day and night lengths. Default is 40 real minutes of day and 10 of night. It uses the game's actual calendar and day/night logic, so it is not just a lighting change.
  • Production runs at normal speed. World seconds are not slowed down. Plants, fermenters, cooking and anything else based on timestamps tick along as in vanilla.
  • Synced countdown under the minimap showing time left in the current phase.
  • Sleeping still skips to the next morning.
  • No Jötunn dependency.

Install

Required on the server AND every client. A client without a matching install is disconnected after about 30 seconds.

Install with a mod manager, or drop plugins/DayNight4010.dll into BepInEx/plugins.

Switching from Ezvay's original

The DLL has the same name as the original on purpose. On a manual install, just copy it over the old DayNight4010.dll. In a mod manager, disable or uninstall the original, because both mods use the same plugin ID and only one may be present. Your existing config and calendar files are picked up as-is, and the network protocol is the same as upstream 2.0.x.

Config

BepInEx/config/local.daynight4010.cfg

[General]

Enabled = true

[Cycle]

DayMinutes = 40

NightMinutes = 10

[HUD]

ShowCountdown = true

Language = pl

FontSize = 20

OffsetY = 8

  • Cycle and Enabled are read from the server. Restart the server after changing them. Each phase can be 1 to 1440 minutes.
  • HUD settings are per client. Set Language = en for English countdown text (the upstream default is Polish).
  • Hiding the countdown does not disable synchronisation.

World calendar file

On first run with a player connected, the mod writes BepInEx/config/DayNight4010/world-.calendar. It preserves your current day number and position in the cycle.

Back this folder up with your world and move it with the world if you migrate servers. If you restore an older world backup, restore the matching calendar file too.

Compatibility

  • Do not combine with other mods that control the clock or calendar. The mod detects several of them and disables itself rather than fight.
  • On a game version it has not been checked against, the mod logs a warning and continues. If a future Valheim update actually renames one of the methods it patches, it logs an error naming the method and falls back to vanilla time. Nothing is corrupted.

Checked against Valheim 1.0.14.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
