Custom Audio Output Device
Choose where Valheim plays its audio, directly in Settings → Audio.
Only the player needs this mod. Nothing is installed on the server.
Use
- Open Settings → Audio from the main menu or while playing.
- Choose Output device, below the existing audio controls. Changes preview immediately.
- Click OK to remember your choice. Back restores the saved choice.
Hover over the selected device or an option in the menu to see its full name.
System default selects your operating system's current default output. The mod
routes Valheim's audio; it does not change the system default or move other applications.
Your saved output is applied once at startup. Devices refresh when you open the
Audio tab, and selecting an output applies it immediately. There is no periodic
polling during gameplay. After connecting a device or changing the system default,
reopen Audio Settings to refresh and reapply your selection.
Platforms
| Platform | Support |
| --- | --- |
| Linux with PulseAudio or PipeWire's PulseAudio service | Audio routing tested locally; requires pactl with JSON output support |
| Windows 10/11 | Supported through Windows per-app audio preferences. If an existing stream does not move, save the selection and restart Valheim. |
| macOS | Not supported |
The Audio tab shows routing errors and whether a selected device is disconnected.
Detailed errors also appear in BepInEx/LogOutput.log.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
