Version 0.1.4 refreshes craftable recipes when nearby chest resources change and refuels stone ovens with wood from accessible chests.

Craft, upgrade items, build, supply smelters and charcoal kilns, and refuel fires and lights with materials from nearby shared chests. Materials in your own inventory are used first; the remaining materials can come directly from accessible containers.

Compatibility and validation

Version 0.1.4 was built against Valheim 1.0.15 and BepInEx 5.4.23.5. Automated fuel checks and static game API checks passed; the new behavior still needs an in-game check.

Features

  • Crafting, item upgrades, building, smelter ore/fuel and charcoal kiln inputs use nearby resources.
  • An optional allowed-resource list protects rare wood from charcoal production. It applies to backpack and chest resources, including explicit item use on the kiln.
  • Campfires, hearths, torches and lamps using Fireplace, and stone ovens using CookingStation, can take their native fuel from accessible chests through the usual refuel action. Toggling a light does not consume resources. Food inputs, fermenters and other arbitrary interfaces are not supported.
  • Resource counts are cached by item name, quality and world level. Inventory changes update the affected container; nearby containers and remote changes are refreshed at a configurable interval.
  • Recipe checks reuse the cache, without repeated physics searches through the surrounding base. Actual actions select containers holding the required materials.
  • Shared chests remain shared. Access is coordinated temporarily when materials are consumed, including concurrent requests from other players.
  • Private-container permissions and wards are respected. Containers marked in use by the game, graves and temporary containers that destroy themselves when empty are excluded from crafting sources.
  • Recipe requirements can show the required and available amounts. Repair keeps its normal game behavior and reuses the cached resource display.

Installation and co-op

  • Disable other mods that provide overlapping crafting or resource consumption from chests to avoid conflicts.
  • Install this package and its BepInEx dependency with your mod manager. For manual installation, copy BepInEx/plugins/CraftFromContainers/CraftFromContainers.dll into the matching folder of your game or mod profile.
  • The host and every joining player must install the same version. A dedicated server is not required. If you choose to use a dedicated server, install the same version there too. Sessions mixing players with and without this mod are unsupported.
  • Start the game once to generate BepInEx/config/local.craftfromcontainers.cfg. Use the same search radius for all participants.

Chest access in 0.1.2

Normal chest opening has no custom cooldown and does not require the player to have placed the chest or opened it last. MultiUserChest remains responsible for simultaneous opening; its successful open response is no longer held until ownership transfers. Ordinary interaction takes priority over pending crafting, which can be retried if interrupted. Normal private-chest permissions and wards still apply.

Update the host and every player to the same version and restart the game. The optional compatibility adapter targets MultiUserChest 0.6.2.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
