Companions
Summon dragon companions, configure their behavior, and use their inventories to store and collect items during your adventures in Valheim.
Features
- Item-based summoning
Equip a summoning egg to call your companion. Unequipping it will dismiss the companion.
- Four dragon types
Four different dragon companions, each available in baby, normal, and adult versions.
- Dragon Nest
Craft companion summoning eggs at the dedicated Dragon Nest crafting station.
- Companion chest
Each companion has its own container with access restricted to the owner. Chest size can be configured per companion.
- Protected access
Only the owner can open the chest or take all items from it.
- Companion weight system
Each dragon has a configurable carrying weight limit, which can also be disabled.
- Weight display
The companion inventory displays its current and maximum carrying weight.
- Overload warning
A visual icon and warning message are displayed when the dragon is overloaded.
- Weight-aware harvesting
Automatic pickup and harvesting respect the companion's carrying weight limit.
- Item blocking
You can define items that the companion is not allowed to carry. Ores that cannot pass through portals are blocked by default.
- Automatic pickup
The companion can collect nearby items and store them directly in its own container.
- Pickable harvesting
The companion can harvest nearby pickables such as berries, mushrooms, thistle, flint and branches, storing the yield directly in its own container.
- Pickup item selection
Use Alt + Click on an item inside the companion chest to select the type of item to be collected.
- Portal travel
Choose whether the companion follows you through portals or stays behind.
- Dungeon behavior
Optionally, the companion waits at the dungeon entrance instead of following you inside. Portal and dungeon options are independent.
- Catch-up teleport
If the companion falls too far behind, it reappears next to you with its summoning effect. Distance is configurable.
- Dynamic flight speed
The companion speeds up to keep pace when far away and arrives smoothly when you stop.
- Map icon
The companion is shown on the map with its own icon, visible at long distances. Can be toggled in the config.
- Cargo box on death
If a companion dies while carrying items, its inventory is transferred to a separate owner-only cargo box and marked on the map.
- Dedicated slot
Optional compatibility with AzuExtendedPlayerInventory, adding a dedicated slot for the companion summoning item.
Controls
- E
Toggles the companion between following and staying in place.
- Shift + E
Opens the companion chest.
- H
Calls your companions to your side from any distance, whether they are following or staying.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
