Chest/Item Finder
English
Chest/Item Finder searches nearby loaded containers for an item name and highlights every matching chest in the world.
Features
- Adds a Search button next to the inventory.
- Search by a complete name or any part of an item name.
- Searches English names and the language currently selected in Valheim.
- Shows nearby search suggestions while typing.
- Lists matching nearby item types before the search is executed.
- Matching containers blink visibly for 10 seconds.
- Optional item and quantity labels appear above matching containers.
- Supports normal chests and other loaded objects using Valheim Container inventories.
- Works alongside storage mods such as AzuAutoStore and AzuCraftyBoxes when the containers are loaded on the client.
- The editable translation and alias CSV files are generated in BepInEx/config.
Usage
- Open the player inventory.
- Select Search.
- Enter an item name or part of a name, such as Stone.
- Press Enter or select the search button.
- Follow the blinking container and its item label.
Press Escape to cancel the search window. Tab also closes it without starting a search.
Configuration
The configuration is created automatically when the mod starts for the first time:
BepInEx/config/LEGIOmods.ChestFinder.cfg
Important settings:
- [Search] Radius = 50 — search radius around the player, in metres.
- [Marker] BlinkDurationSeconds = 10 — how long matching containers blink, in seconds.
- [Marker] ShowScreenLabels = true — shows the yellow item/count label above a matching container.
- [Performance] ScanCooldownSeconds = 3 — minimum delay between nearby-container scans.
Restart Valheim after changing the configuration file.
Translation and alias CSV files
The mod creates two editable files in BepInEx/config:
- ChestFinder.ItemTranslations.csv — overview of item tokens, prefabs, English names and available translations.
- ChestFinder.ItemAliases.csv — additional search words. Use semicolons to separate aliases, for example:
"PrefabName","EnglishAliases","GermanAliases"
"RoundLog","core wood;corewood","Kernholz;Kern"
The CSV files are optional. The mod still works if they are missing or contain an invalid row.
Installation
Install with r2modman or Mod Manager. For manual installation, place ChestFinder.dll in BepInEx/plugins/ChestFinder.
Chest/Item Finder is client-side. The server and other players do not need the mod.
Compatibility and dependencies
- Version 1.0.1 was rebuilt and tested with Valheim 1.0.7 and Unity 6000.0.75.
- Requires BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2350.
- The mod is client-side; it is not required on the server or on other players' clients.
Troubleshooting
- Only loaded containers within the configured radius can be searched. Unloaded areas cannot be scanned.
- The search works with regular chests, carts, the obliterator and other objects that use a Valheim Container inventory.
- If an item is not found, check the search radius and whether the storage object is currently loaded near the player.
- For diagnostics, see BepInEx/LogOutput.log.
Highlighted chest
The matching chest blinks white and displays the item quantity.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
