About this mod Author’s original text
CheatCleanup
CheatCleanup is a save-repair tool for Valheim 1.0 saves affected by persistent
devcommands / spawn cheat markers.
It removes persistent cheat markers from the active character and local/hosted world.
It does not patch or bypass Valheim's achievement checks.
Important
- Back up the affected character and world before the first cleanup.
- Nothing is changed automatically when the mod loads.
- scan and verify are read-only.
- Actual cleanup requires cheatcleanup clean confirm.
- Cleanup is blocked when you are only a client on somebody else's server.
- While BepInEx is loaded, Valheim still reports the session as modded. After cleanup,
quit normally and reopen the same save without mods for vanilla behavior.
Commands
Open the Valheim console with F5:
- cheatcleanup or cheatcleanup help - show help
- cheatcleanup scan - scan without changing the save
- cheatcleanup clean - show the confirmation warning
- cheatcleanup clean confirm - perform cleanup and request a native Valheim save
- cheatcleanup verify - scan again after cleanup
What CheatCleanup repairs
CheatCleanup scans and, when confirmed, can clear:
- the character's persistent used-cheats flag
- the historical Cheats player statistic
- cheated item flags in the local player's inventory
- cheated item flags inside persistent ZDO inventory payloads
- direct/indexed persistent item payloads used by world items and stands
- persistent ZDO cheated and cheatedQueued propagation flags
- compatible loaded runtime cheat-state copies
- starting world keys that Valheim's own current world-modifier validation treats as cheated
Items are preserved; CheatCleanup clears the cheat marker instead of deleting the item.
Recommended workflow
- In Valheim's Manage Saves screen, create a backup of the character and world.
- Launch a profile containing CheatCleanup.
- Enter the affected local world using the affected character.
- Run cheatcleanup scan.
- Review the report.
- Run cheatcleanup clean confirm.
- Wait for Valheim's native save to finish and quit normally.
- Launch Valheim without mods and reopen the same save.
Compatibility
Release 1.0.0 was tested with:
- Valheim 1.0.7 (network version 39)
- BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2350
- Jotunn 2.30.0
Because CheatCleanup works with Valheim save internals, game updates can require a new
CheatCleanup version. Do not assume compatibility with a newer Valheim build until the
mod has been checked against it.
Notes
CheatCleanup is intended as a save-repair utility, not an achievement enabler.
It does not set Game.isModded to false and does not override the game's achievement
decision functions.
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
