About this mod Author’s original text

Byrding

Your armour, weapons, food and ammo get their own panel beside the inventory, so they stop

taking up pack space.

Open your inventory and click Gear, between the Armor and Weight readouts.

Eighteen slots. Six for armour, six weapon quickslots on Shift+1 to Shift+6, three

for food and three for ammo. That is eighteen pack slots handed back.

Named for the byrðingr, the broad Norse cargo ship.

What You Get

Armour goes where it belongs. Right-click a helmet in your pack and it goes on your head and

into the helmet slot in one motion. Right-click it in the panel and it comes off and comes back.

Dragging works both ways too.

Six weapon quickslots. Drop in a weapon, shield, torch or tool and it stays there, drawn or

sheathed. Tap Shift+1 to Shift+6 to swap to it, tap again to put it away. Each slot

shows its number in the corner, and the keys can be rebound.

Three food slots. Keep your rations out of your pack and right-click to eat straight from

the panel. Picking up more of the same food tops up the stack already in there.

Three ammo slots. Arrows, bolts, throwables and fishing bait. Your bow finds them there on

its own, with nothing to switch on. Ammo in your pack is used first, so an ammo slot works as a

reserve you do not have to think about.

Your gear comes back after you die. Take All at your grave returns every piece to the slot

it came from and puts your armour back on. It does this without using pack space, so it works

even when your pack is full.

Nothing to think about. A slot only accepts what belongs in it, and your pack still fills up

at exactly the same rate, so "inventory full" means what it always did.

No balance change. Every armour slot is one the game already has. You cannot wear anything

you could not wear before, there is nothing to set up on a server, and other players do not need

the mod. Circlets still go in the helmet slot, because in Valheim a circlet is a helmet.

Install

Client only, and everyone installs their own. A server install does nothing. Your gear is

saved in your own character file, by the game's own code.

Uninstalling

Type byrding_unpack in the console first, then log out, then remove the mod.

Byrding parks your gear in three inventory rows the game normally keeps hidden. With the mod

gone, the next time you log in the game tidies those rows up by dropping everything in them at

your feet. byrding_unpack empties the slots back into your pack so there is nothing left to

drop.

The same applies to going back to an older version. Byrding 0.2.1 and earlier only had two

hidden rows, so anything in your ammo slots would be dropped.

Compatibility

Do not run this with another slots mod. ExtraSlots, AzuExtendedPlayerInventory and

EquipmentAndQuickSlots all do the same job and will fight it. Pick one.

Mods that only decorate the inventory are fine. Byrding does not draw its own slots, it borrows

the game's, so anything another mod adds to an inventory slot comes along with it.

Runemark's rarity frames and tooltips work

in the panel for that reason.

Settings

BepInEx/config/gbv.valheim.byrding.cfg, or the Configuration Manager in game.

| Setting | Default | What It Does |

|---|---|---|

| WeaponSlot1 … WeaponSlot6 | LeftShift+1 … LeftShift+6 | Draw or sheathe that weapon slot. Rebind to any key and modifier. |

| HotkeysWorkWithInventoryOpen | true | Whether the weapon keys work while the inventory is open. They never fire while you are typing. |

| Enabled | true | Turn Byrding off without uninstalling. Your gear moves back into your pack, still worn. Safe either way. |

| OpenWithInventory | true | Show the panel whenever the inventory is open, rather than waiting for the Gear button. |

| SlotSilhouettes | true | The engraved shape in each empty slot. |

| PanelOffsetX / PanelOffsetY | 0 | Nudge the panel, if another mod wants the same piece of screen. |

Shift is the default because the bare number keys are the vanilla hotbar.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
