BuildBeacon
Boss-trophy-powered beacon that discounts build costs in a radius.
About this mod Author’s original text
BuildBeacon
Hang your boss trophies around a rune-carved beacon, and the materials of every biome you have conquered become free
to build with nearby.
Building a big base means hauling the same stone, wood and metal back and forth long after it has stopped being a
challenge. BuildBeacon rewards progress instead: once you have beaten a biome's boss, its building materials cost
nothing inside your beacon's radius, or a twentieth of their price on servers that want some gathering to stay (see
Free, or 95% off). Creature trophies take half or more off the rest. The discount is real: it shows in
the build menu, in the piece's cost readout, and it is exactly what leaves your inventory when you place the piece.
Built on Jötunn for Valheim 1.0.
Requirements
- BepInExPack Valheim
- Jötunn 2.30 or newer
Both are dependencies and install automatically with a mod manager. In multiplayer, the server and every
player need the mod (see Multiplayer).
Getting started
- Build a Build Beacon. Hammer, Misc tab. It needs a workbench nearby and costs 20 Stone and 1 Surtling
Core. While you hold a hammer, hoe or cultivator, a blue ring on the ground shows its radius: 30 metres to start.
- Build boss trophy holders near it. Also in the Hammer's Misc tab, near a workbench, each costing
10 Stone and 5 Wood:
- the Boss Trophy Pillar, a short stone pillar with an iron hook, for floors and the ground;
- the Boss Trophy Mount, a hexagonal plaque with a hook, for walls only.
A holder has to stand within 30 metres of a beacon, so holders can line a hall or ring the base rather than
crowd the beacon. A yellow thread links them while you place it, just like a workbench and its upgrades.
- Hang a boss trophy on each holder. Hold the trophy and press Use on the holder; press Use again to take it back.
The boss's materials are now free inside the beacon's radius (95% off, if the server chooses).
- Slot creature trophies into the beacon itself. Press Use on the beacon to open its panel, or hold a trophy and
press Use on the beacon. Each creature trophy discounts a few of its own materials.
- Add trophy racks for more creature trophies. Also in the Hammer's Misc tab, near a workbench, each costing
10 Wood and 5 Stone:
- the Trophy Column, a 2 m column with four alcoves round it, for floors and the ground;
- the Trophy Panel, a 2 m square wall panel with four alcoves, made to tile a wall edge to edge.
Each rack links to a beacon within 30 metres like a holder, adds four creature trophy slots on top of the
beacon's own, and raises the beacon's level. Look at an alcove and press Use with a creature trophy to place it;
press Use on a filled alcove to take it back.
- Later, raise a Great Beacon. An 8-metre beacon whose own alcoves hold your boss trophies; see
The Great Beacon.
Levelling the beacon
Every boss trophy holder and trophy rack linked to a beacon raises it one level, and each level widens its radius by
10 metres. A holder or rack counts whether or not it holds a trophy yet, and any mix of the two counts.
| Holders and racks linked | 0 | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Level | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 |
| Radius | 30 m | 40 m | 50 m | 60 m | 70 m | 80 m | 90 m | 100 m |
Level 8 is the top; further holders and racks still hold trophies (and racks still add their slots) but add no
radius. Each links to the closest beacon within 30 metres, so where two beacons are near each other, each counts for
whichever one is closer. Removing one lowers the level again straight away. The beacon's hover text and panel show its current level.
Beacons of either kind need 6 metres between them; the hammer refuses a closer spot ("Need more space").
The Great Beacon
A towering, 8-metre version of the beacon, for the trophies of the bosses you have slain. It is a Build Beacon in every
other way: the same discounts, ring, glow and panel, and boss trophy holders and trophy racks link to it just as t
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
