BreedingUpgrades Chicken Egg Fix
Keeps newly laid chicken eggs at normal quality while BreedingUpgrades
continues upgrading other offspring. It can also repair existing starred chicken
eggs, which can fail recipes expecting quality 1.
What it changes
- Excludes ChickenEgg from BreedingUpgrades' egg upgrade selection.
- Prevents new quality upgrades on protected eggs.
- Optionally repairs existing protected eggs during world/inventory load and save.
- Leaves Asksvin eggs and live-born creature upgrades unchanged by default.
- Restores BreedingUpgrades 1.0.2's three console commands on Valheim 1.0.
Version 1.1.1 fixes the repair toggle for world drops and inventory loading.
With repair disabled, loading an already-starred egg keeps its existing quality;
new upgrades are still blocked while the fix is enabled.
Install
Install this package and the listed dependencies on the server and every
client Mod Manager or r2modman. Use Import local mod
for a downloaded ZIP, then restart the game/server.
For manual installation, put BreedingUpgradesChickenEggFix.dll in
BepInEx/plugins/BreedingUpgradesChickenEggFix/ and install the dependencies.
Current dependency baseline
- Valheim 1.0.16
- BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2351 or newer
- Dumba's BreedingUpgrades 1.0.2
Do not also install the old combined ValheimCompatibilityFixes package: it
contains the same egg fix and is marked incompatible. The separate
AzuCraftyBoxesBuildingOnly package can be used alongside this one.
Settings
After the first launch, edit
BepInEx/config/local.valheim.breedingupgradeschickeneggfix.cfg:
| Setting | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| 1 - General / Fix Enabled | true | Enables egg protection and optional repair. |
| 2 - Repair / Repair Existing Chicken Eggs | true | Changes existing protected eggs to quality 1 on load/save. |
| 2 - Repair / Additional Protected Egg Prefabs | blank | Comma/semicolon-separated internal prefab names to protect in addition to ChickenEgg. |
These settings are local. Copy the same configuration to the server and all
clients so that whichever player owns an egg applies the same policy.
BreedingUpgrades still controls the upgrade chance and star cap for other eggs
and creatures.
Turning repair off preserves the existing quality of loaded eggs. Requests to
change a protected egg's quality still follow the protection setting. Turning
Fix Enabled off disables both behaviors.
Compatibility and removal
The console bridge specifically targets Dumba's 1.0.2 release. The newer
DaiMinhTri fork was reviewed as source background; replacing the dependency with
that fork has not been validated for this package.
No recipes are rewritten, and no world-wide or per-frame egg scan runs.
Repair happens on ordinary item/inventory operations. Removing the add-on and
restarting lets BreedingUpgrades upgrade chicken eggs again. Quality already
removed by repair cannot be restored automatically.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
