BoneMod — Valheim 1.0 Compatibility Fix

A small compatibility update for BoneMod, originally created by an0nymooose.

All credit for BoneMod, its design, and its original implementation belongs to an0nymooose. This release only updates the existing mod so it works with Valheim 1.0.

BoneMod lets you change the scale of individual character bones with in-game chat commands. Character proportions are saved locally and can be synchronized so other players running BoneMod can see them in multiplayer.

Valheim 1.0 compatibility fixes

  • Updated the chat hook for Valheim 1.0's UserInfo sender data.
  • Updated HUD/message calls for the current Character.Message signature.
  • Fixed map pings by allowing empty/non-BoneMod chat packets to pass through untouched.
  • Limited BoneMod command parsing to messages beginning with!bm.
  • Prevented BoneMod's save routine from running before a local player exists, fixing an intermittent server-join/logout NullReferenceException.
  • Preserved the original command syntax, save data format, configuration behavior, and multiplayer synchronization.

Installation

r2modman / Gale

Install the package normally with your preferred -compatible mod manager. The required Valheim BepInEx package is declared as a dependency.

Manual

  • Install BepInExPack for Valheim.
  • Copy BoneMod.dll into Valheim/BepInEx/plugins.
  • Remove any older BoneMod DLL before launching the game.

Commands

Open Valheim chat and use the following commands.

Scale a body part!bm bodypart x y z

Example:!bm head 2 1 2

To use the same scale on all three axes, provide only one number:!bm head 1.25

Other commands

-!bmreset — Reset your character's scaled bones.

-!bmstop — Stop sending your bone scaling data to other BoneMod clients.

-!bmstart — Resume bone scaling synchronization.

-!bmclearsave — Clear saved BoneMod character data and reset your character.

-!bmhelp — Display BoneMod command help and available bones.

Multiplayer

Every player who wants to see custom character proportions should have BoneMod installed.

Bone scaling data is synchronized between BoneMod clients. Changes made to a nearby player can appear immediately, while synchronization for players elsewhere may take a few seconds.

Save data

BoneMod stores character bone data locally and reapplies it when the character is loaded again. Saved data can be cleared in-game with!bmclearsave.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
