Bifrost Gateway
A quick-connect gateway for Valheim's main menu. Your private servers get a left-docked panel with one-click join, saved passwords, and live player counts — so a friend lands in your world without ever typing a password or an IP.
Selecting a joining character still happens: Bifrost Gateway dials through the game's own connect bridge, so the vanilla character-select screen appears and who actually steps onto the bridge is up to you.
A Valheim BepInEx 5 plugin, Harmony only — no Jotunn dependency.
Features
- One-click join — every server you configure appears on the main menu; clicking one starts the join immediately.
- Passwords supplied for you — the vanilla FejdStartup.ServerPassword path is fed automatically, so the prompt never appears. The last password is wiped after join or on backing out, so a stale one can't leak into the public-server box.
- Vanilla character-select flow — joins run through FejdStartup.ProceedJoinRequest, the game's own private bridge, so the real "pick your character" screen appears and the panel steps aside the moment loading starts.
- Live player counts — 0/10 shown when the backend knows; unknown displayed honestly for direct-IP servers the matchmaker can't see, never a misleading 0/0.
- Version mismatch badge — a server on a different Valheim version shows a red ⚠ vX.Y.Z warning, because a mismatched join fails after connect with ErrorVersion.
- Left-docked panel — drawn from the plugin's own OnGUI, no Harmony patch, no backdrop (so main-menu buttons stay clickable), gate on main menu and character-select only.
Requirements
- BepInExPack Valheim
- Valheim 1.0.16+
Installation
- Install through your mod manager (recommended).
- Manual: place BifrostGateway.dll and bifrost_config.json into BepInEx\plugins\BifrostGateway\.
Configuration
Servers live in bifrost_config.json beside the DLL (the plugin creates it on first run):
[
{
"name": "Lanfangels Nest",
"host": "10.0.0.5",
"port": "2456",
"password": "raveaks"
}
]
Each entry may omit password. The list is read on load; restart to pick up changes.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
