Beeswax
Adds beeswax from player beehives and wild nests. Equip it and coat wood, hardwood, and wood iron pieces to keep rain and standing water from wearing them down.
What you get
- Beeswax — a heavy lump of wax from the hive. Stacks to 30 by default.
- Player beehives — produce beeswax alongside honey, about 30% slower. Each cycle gives 2 wax (up to 10 stored in the hive).
- Wild nests — breaking a world-spawned bee nest drops 1 beeswax.
- Waterproofing — equip beeswax, look at a coatable piece, and left-click to apply. Costs 1 wax per piece. Works on wood, hardwood, and wood iron poles/beams. Crafting stations and their upgrades cannot be waxed.
- Scrape wax — equip a knife, look at a waxed piece, hold right-click, then left-click to scrape. Plays the knife swing, deals no structure damage, and returns 1 beeswax.
- Waxed look — waxed pieces can show a warm glossy tint (on by default). Turn visuals off in config to use hover labels instead.
No crafting recipe — wax only comes from bees.
Changelog
1.0.5
- Fixed waxed Raft, Karve, Longship, and Drakkar sails and masts looking flat and unlit at night. The wax look now only tints wood surfaces and no longer adds a glow.
- Waxed rafts now match the waxed Karve color, and the raft mast and yard get the wax look too. The sail stays untinted.
- Fixed scraped wax still looking waxed for other players on a server. The wax look now clears for everyone when anyone scrapes it off.
1.0.4
- Scrape beeswax off wood with a knife (hold block, then attack) to get 1 wax back.
- Fixed ShowWaxedVisuals so turning it off removes the wax look from already-waxed pieces.
- Blocked beeswax on crafting stations and their upgrades; leftover seals on those pieces are cleared.
1.0.3
- Updated for Valheim 1.0.
1.0.2
- Fixed DropCount = 0 being ignored — wild nests no longer always drop wax when drops are disabled.
- Fixed MaxStack ≤ 0 hanging the hive extract loop and spamming drops.
- Fixed ProductionSlowdown ≤ 0 risking divide-by-zero in hive tick math.
- Synced the config template and README with Hand Visual settings; removed the dead Overview bind.
- Deploy no longer overwrites your live r2modman config on every build (copies the template only when missing).
1.0.1
- Fixed beeswax floating on your back when holstered with R — the model is now hidden until you draw it again.
- Added translations for all 14 official Valheim languages (item name, description, and hover text).
How to use
- Equip beeswax from your inventory or hotbar.
- Look at a wood, hardwood, or wood iron piece.
- Left-click to apply wax.
- To remove wax, equip a knife, look at a waxed piece, hold right-click, then left-click — you get 1 beeswax back.
Waxed pieces are protected from rain and water damage. With default settings, waxed wood shows a glossy look. While holding beeswax, waxed pieces show Already waxed when hover text is enabled.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
