AutoStore
Chests that put your items away by themselves. Set a chest up once, then just walk past it: what it
accepts leaves your inventory and goes in. No new interface to learn: a chest is set up by what
you put in it.
Short demo on YouTube.
How it works
- Open a chest and click the AStr button in its window, or press Ctrl+Q. Each click moves
it one step: AStr:OFF, AStr:1, AStr:2... then back to OFF. The number is how many
reference slots the chest uses, from the left of its top row, up to one full row.
- Put one of each item you want stored in those slots, one item type per slot.
- Close the chest and walk away. The next time you come near it carrying those items, they go in.
Reference slots stack like any other slot, and the chest fills them first. The chest remembers
what each slot held: take the whole stack, by hand, with Take All, or through a mod such as Craft
From Containers, and the slot still sets the filter. The next time you walk by, it fills up again.
- To change a filter, put another item in its slot.
- To forget one, lower the slot count (AStr:1 forgets the second slot) and close the chest.
- Turning a chest OFF and on again keeps its filters.
What it stores
Only stackable items: ores, wood, food, arrows, leather... Weapons, tools and armour are never
stored: each one is unique, with its own quality and wear, and the mod will not choose for you which
one to keep.
It fills the chest until there is no room left. StackLimit can stop it earlier.
Keep some on you
KeepInInventory sets how much of an item you always keep on you. Chests only take the surplus.
KeepInInventory = Wood:20, Stone:10, Coins:100
Name items the way the console does (Wood, FineWood, ArrowWood, Coins); the name shown in
game works too. all:10 sets a default for every other item, and Wood:0 exempts wood from that
default. Everything you carry counts, your hotbar and what you have equipped included.
What it never does
- It never takes anything out of a chest. It only puts in what you carry.
- It never touches a chest that is open, by you or by anyone else.
- It never stores into a chest you have never opened: walking through a friend's base will not
empty your bag into their chests.
- It never takes what you have equipped, nor your hotbar (that one can be changed).
Taking something back
A chest that has just stored something, or that you have just opened, pauses. To wake it up, walk
more than 4 m away: that starts a 5 s countdown, which then runs on its own, even if you come
straight back. As long as you stay where you are, nothing counts down, so you can take items out
without them going right back in.
Range
A chest reaches you within 2 m on the ground and 4 m up or down. That covers a whole floor:
a chest right above or below you reaches you through the floor. Lower VerticalRange to about 2 m
to keep each floor to itself.
Multiplayer
Client-side: each player who wants it installs it, and nothing goes on the server. Players
without the mod see a normal chest.
A chest's setup is shared: a chest set to AStr is set up for everyone, with its filters and its slot
count. But each player must have opened a chest once before it stores their items.
When a chest belongs to another player, the mod asks for it with the game's own chest-opening
request instead of taking it. Tested with two players, including both storing into the same chest
at the same moment: nothing lost, nothing duplicated.
Settings
BepInEx/config/moochi.autostore.cfg, created on first launch. Changed in game with
Configuration Manager (F1), a
setting applies at once; edited in the file, at the next launch.
| Setting | Default | |
|---|---|---|
| Enabled | true | Turns the mod on or off. |
| SearchRadius | 2 | How close you must be, in metres, measured on the ground. |
| VerticalRange | 4 | How far above or below you, in metres, a chest still reaches you. |
| RearmDistance | 4 | How far you must walk away, in metres, before a chest can store again. |
| RearmDelay |
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
