Animal Feeding Trough
Animal Feeding Trough adds a coordinated set of functional feeding troughs and a chicken feeding bowl to Valheim. Store suitable food in a feeding station and nearby tameable animals will approach it through Valheim's normal AI, including animals that are still being tamed.
Features
- Ten matching feeding-station designs in three trough families.
- Large, medium, and small straight troughs.
- Large, medium, and small curved troughs.
- Large, medium, and small corner troughs.
- One low, round chicken feeding bowl.
- Six storage slots in every design.
- Storage accepts food used by tameable animals.
- Hungry animals detect suitable food within 16 metres.
- Animals walk to dedicated feeding positions before eating.
- Supports normal taming by feeding untamed tameable animals.
- Tamed and untamed tameable animals cannot damage the feeding stations.
- Individual build-menu icons and visible stored-food surfaces.
- Multiplayer support for clients and dedicated servers.
- English, German, Russian, Ukrainian, and Japanese localization.
Requirements
- Valheim 1.0, current public build.
- BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2350 or newer.
- Jotunn 2.30.2 or newer.
- The same Animal Feeding Trough version and dependencies on the server and every client.
Installation
Mod manager
Install the package with a compatible mod manager. The declared dependencies will be installed automatically.
Manual installation
- Close Valheim and stop the dedicated server.
- Install BepInExPack Valheim and Jotunn.
- Copy AnimalFeedingTrough.dll to Valheim/BepInEx/plugins/AnimalFeedingTrough.
- Remove older copies of the mod from other plugin folders.
- Install the same version on the server and every client.
- Start Valheim.
Building and use
All ten feeding stations are available in the hammer's Furniture category and require a nearby workbench.
| Design | Wood | Bronze nails |
| --- | ---: | ---: |
| Large straight trough | 20 | 4 |
| Medium straight trough | 14 | 3 |
| Small straight trough | 8 | 2 |
| Large curved trough | 18 | 4 |
| Medium curved trough | 12 | 3 |
| Small curved trough | 8 | 2 |
| Large corner trough | 18 | 4 |
| Medium corner trough | 12 | 3 |
| Small corner trough | 8 | 2 |
| Chicken feeding bowl | 6 | 2 |
Open a feeding station like a chest and add suitable animal food. Keep its feeding sides accessible so animals can reach their assigned positions. The visible food surface indicates that suitable food is stored; it does not represent the exact food type or quantity.
Animal behaviour
Animal movement continues to use Valheim's normal AI and pathfinding. Blocked routes, frightened animals, unloaded areas, or other mods that alter animal AI can affect feeding behaviour.
Multiplayer
The mod and both dependencies are required on the server and every client. Use the same version everywhere to avoid synchronization and compatibility problems.
Updating
Remove older copies of AnimalFeedingTrough.dll before installing an update. Existing supported trough prefabs retain their compatibility and configured migration paths.
Uninstallation
Back up the world first. Empty and dismantle all placed feeding stations while the mod is installed, save the world, exit the game, and then remove the DLL from the server and every client.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
