Aeres Professions
Choose a profession, level it up by doing its work, and earn a perk for it. Open the menu with Left Alt + K, pick one, and go play.
Only your active profession earns XP and gives its perk. Every profession keeps its own XP, so you can switch and come back later.
Professions
| Profession | XP comes from | Perk |
|---|---|---|
| Miner | Mining rock and ore with a pickaxe | Pickaxe damage |
| Woodcutter | Chopping trees and logs | Axe chop damage |
| Hunter | Fighting creatures and monsters (not players) | Damage against creatures |
| Farmer | Harvesting crops and forage, and planting | Chance of a double harvest |
| Blacksmith | Crafting and upgrading at a forge or black forge | Chance to get the materials back |
| Alchemist | Brewing meads and potions | Chance to get the materials back |
| Mason | Stone building, and crafting at the stonecutter | Chance to get the materials back |
| Mariner | Sailing a ship, and reeling in fish | Sail speed |
| Tavern Keeper | Crafting food, and collecting from cooking stations | Food you eat lasts longer |
Damage perks grow by 1% per level and the others by 0.5% per level, up to level 50 by default. All of this is configurable.
Using it
- Menu: press Left Alt + K in a world. It shows every profession with its level, XP progress, and current perk. Press Choose on the one you want. Press the key again, Esc, or Close to leave.
- Console: profession shows your status and profession choose picks one. The console needs the -console launch option.
- The menu will not open over chat, the console, your inventory, the map, shops, or another Jotunn mod's window.
Configuration
Settings are in BepInEx/config/com.danle.professions.cfg.
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Menu.OpenKey | Left Alt + K | Key that opens the menu. Change it if it clashes with another mod. |
| Menu.ShowHint | true | One-time reminder of the menu key when you spawn without a profession. |
| Progression.MaxLevel | 50 | Highest reachable level. |
| Progression.BaseXp | 60 | Scales the XP curve. Higher is slower. |
| Progression.XpMultiplier | 1 | Multiplier on all XP gained. |
| Perks.PercentPerLevel | 1 | Damage perk per level (Miner, Woodcutter, Hunter). |
| Perks.UtilityPercentPerLevel | 0.5 | Perk per level for the other professions. |
| Rules.AllowSwitching | true | Whether players may change profession after choosing one. |
Progression, perk and rule settings are set by the server admin and synced to players by Jotunn. Syncing needs the mod on the server. Menu settings are personal and never synced.
Multiplayer
- Players without the mod can still join a server that has it. They simply have no professions.
- Progress is stored on each player's own character.
- Because progress lives on the client, this is not anti-cheat. It is built for friends' servers, not for stopping a determined cheater.
Requirements
- BepInExPack Valheim
- Jotunn
Known limits
- Mariner's sail speed perk applies to sails only, not rowing.
- Alchemist matches crafting stations by name, so some modded or newer cauldron variants may not count. Report any station that gives no XP.
- Valheim already has its own skills, including cooking. They keep working alongside this mod and level separately.
- This is a separate mod from Smoothbrain's Professions. Running both gives you two independent profession systems.
Installing by hand
Put AeresProfessions.dll in BepInEx/plugins. Using r2modman or Mod Manager is recommended because it pulls in the requirements for you.
Feedback
If a station, crop or activity does not give XP when you expect it to, let me know what it was and what you were holding or standing at.
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
