About this mod Author’s original text
This is the repository for CustomAbilities, coded by Fryke (fryke) on Discord.
CustomAbilities is a V Rising dedicated server mod that allows server admins to assign custom abilities to players and items. Override any ability slot on any weapon category, apply abilities directly to specific items, and provide a public API for other mods to integrate with.
Features
- Player Ability Assignment - Set any ability on any slot (Attack, Q, E, Dash, Spell 1, Spell 2, Ultimate) for any weapon category.
- Item Ability Assignment - Apply abilities directly to specific weapons/items. Item abilities override category-level abilities.
- Quick Set Commands - Players can set their currently equipped R/C spell to Q/E with a single command.
- Spell Pool System - External mods register spell providers to define which spells a player has access to. Player spell assignment is gated by the pool; admin assignment bypasses it. Spells support user-friendly aliases and per-spell allowed/restricted slots, with fuzzy name matching on assign.
- Ability Presets - Players can save, load, list, and delete named presets capturing all weapon categories plus vanilla R/C/T/Dash baseline. Loading restores both custom slots and baseline spells.
- Banned Combination Notifications - Server-defined ability combos trigger a one-time system message when a player has the full combo equipped. Notify only, never blocks.
- Form Ability Overrides - API for other mods to supply custom ability arrays for shapeshift forms.
- Special Case Handlers - API for other mods to modify ability slots at runtime based on tags, buffs, or state.
- Jewelable Ability Blocking - Prevents jewelable abilities (spell school abilities) from being assigned to items, protecting against a known engine bug that can delete jewels and corrupt inventory data.
- Ability Merge Priority - Item abilities > category abilities > default, with a clear merge chain.
- Persistent Data - All player and item ability data saved to local JSON files and survives server restarts.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
