About this mod Machine translation

A collection of personal tweaks and fixes from The Witcher 3 dev. The mod mainly targets fixed immersion crushers, polishing poorly performing skills and items, cosmetic changes, and bugfixes. It also fixed some instances of items and abilities that made Geralt (almost) immortal and removed all challenges from the game.

Introduction

Hey, I'm a senior game designer, I've worked on The Witcher 3 and both expansion packs. This mod was once a personal set of tweaks and fixes designed to spice up my first game of The Witcher 3 after the game was released. Over half a year in the making, and enjoying over 300 hours of gameplay, I thought I might share it with the Witcher community. Mods do not target any deep and invasive changes, but rather aim to keep the original feel of the game, sometimes closer to the original intention behind the design. It mainly focuses on fixing the immersion crusher, polishing underperforming skills and items, cosmetic changes, and bugfixes. It also fixed some instances of items and abilities that made Geralt (almost) immortal and removed all challenges from the game.

Because the mod affects character development, Geralt's abilities will be reset and skill points restored, just like a free respec. It also comes with some compatibility fixes for other mods I've been playing. Installing mods in the middle of a game should be completely safe unless you are already using other mods that affect gameplay.

For the installation directory, Mod Manager handles it automatically and I totally recommend using it.

Compatibility fixes

Full version of Nitpicker's Patch using CHC (full mode installation, do not use with main file)

Patch for Friendship HUD by wghost81 (works with full mod)

Patch by wghost81 plus friendly HUD plus friendly storage by whgohst81 (works with full mod)

Fix All Quest objectives on map by Wolfmark Full version (works with full mod)

Patched Friendly HUD via wghost81 plus all mission objectives on the map via Wolfmark (to be used together with the full text mod)

Patch for Friendly HUD by wghost81 Added Friendly Hide by whgohst81 Plus All mission objectives on map via Wolfmark (to be used with full text mod)

To force a reset of character development and skill definitions, type "ResetCharacterDevelopment" or "rcd" (lazy version) in the console without using quotes to activate it. You'll know it's due to the camera shake effect. Save and reload the game after entering.

Optional Pack - Reduce the amount of junk loot

For all the OCD players (like me) who feel the need to pick up everything and are tired of it, FCR3 has the option to reduce the amount of filler. All containers with a generic low-quality trash loot table will be empty unless associated with a quest or point of interest. Drops from killed enemies are not affected. Store prices are halved to make up for the loss of items you want to sell and items you need to buy now. This feature is optional as it does not follow the philosophy of mods - focus on polishing and tweaking and maintaining the original feel of the game. This feature changes that feeling. You can think of it as a quality of life change and time saver.

Changing the price is only really necessary if you play for reduced loot from the beginning of the game. Adding it to the game may have accumulated enough money. In this case, if you want to remove the price changes, just delete the scripts folder from the mod installation folder.

Reduced loot will not be retroactive to already discovered containers, as their contents have already been determined and saved by the game.

Reduced loot packs come in two versions - regular and compatbile with friendly HUD by wghost81.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
