About this mod Machine translation

This Reshade preset will bring the cold and unforgiving winter to the Skellige Isles.

I find the Skellig Vanilla appearance too warm, dark and dull for my taste. These are harsh and hardened

Viking warriors on remote islands - they should be cold, ragged and wintery!

This very simple Reshade preset changes Skellige's color palette into a more "Nordic winter" visual. It's built on top of the popular Wiedzmin Lighting Mod (version X1), so to achieve the exact same picture look, I recommend using that mod. It's not required, but without it the colors may vary depending on your setup.

See comparison image with Vanilla (Wiedzmin) lighting and Winter Skellige Reshade enabled.

Note: I recommend deactivating this preset or using some other Reshade instead of in Skellige - unless you want the whole world to look cold.

Install:

  • Download the latest Reshade version.
  • Run Reshade setup exe, select "witcher 3.exe" (bin/x64), click on Direct3D10+ and download all shaders.
  • Download my files from the files section (reshade-shaders folder and WinterSkellige.ini file).
  • Paste my file into the x64 folder where witcher3.exe is, overwriting if asked.
  • In the game, press Shift + F2 to open the conversion window and select WinterSkellige from the drop-down menu, or if you don't see it there, click on the "+" symbol and write "WinterSkellige"
  • Important: After starting playback, switch "Configuration Mode" to "Performance Mode" under the "Settings" tab to improve performance.

If you want to modify the Reshade settings yourself, feel free to do so, but be aware that all of these filters serve some purpose and you may lose the intended vision.

The filter I used to achieve the effect:

  • AmbientLight (slightly added)
  • Clarity (slightly added)
  • Hue (blue)
  • LiftGammaGain (small but important tweak)
  • (De)Vibrance (slight negative vibration)
  • Sepia (minor adjustment) )
  • GaussianBlur (low power, this reduces aliasing. This can be disabled

If you want a sharper image, don't lose the winter color palette)

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
