describe

Better Combat Enhancement (BCE) is a popular module that adjusts the combat difficulty curve in The Witcher 3 game. Unfortunately, both the original mod and its "maintenance branch" modBCEm have been effectively discontinued as of patch 1.21. modBCEu is the second branch used to keep up with current versions of the game and HoS/B&W expansions. Initially, it was for personal purposes, but due to many complaints and requests, I decided to release it for public use.

Install

Unzip the modBCEu folder and copy it to [Witcher3 home folder]/Mods/ (create it if it doesn't exist). Using BCEu does not require the original BCE to be installed. Also, you don't need to launch a new game as BCEu will apply its changes to the pre-existing save game on the load.

(Highly recommended) Run the script merge (by AnotherSymbiote) to check and resolve any conflicts with other mods you may be using.

IMPORTANT: If you have script compilation errors, it is most likely due to a missing telemetryKeyword.ws file. Check if this file exists on your game installation, if it does not exist, create it as instructed in the description linked earlier.

uninstall

Delete the modBCEu folder from [Witcher3 home folder]/Mods/.

Unzip the modBCERm folder and copy it to [Witcher3 home folder]/Mods/.

Launch the game once, load your saved game, make a new save and close the game.

Delete the modBCERm folder from [Witcher3 home folder]/Mods/.

Load the save you made and reallocate your skill points as needed.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
