FAQ

*Xbox version?

  • No, this is not possible due to limitations set by the manufacturer.
  • My virus scanner complained about sfse_loader!
  • It's not a virus. To extend the game, we use a technique called DLL injection to load code. Since this technique can also be used by viruses, some poorly written virus scanners may assume that any program that uses this technique is a virus. You may need to add exceptions to the scanner's rules.
  • Can I modify and distribute my own version of SFSE based on the included source code?
  • No, the recommended way is to write a plugin to extend SFSE. If this does not meet your needs, please send an email to the contact address listed below.
  • Where do the log files go?
  • \My Games\Starfield\SFSE\Logs\
  • How do I uninstall SFSE?
  • Delete .dll and .exe files starting with sfse_ from your Starfield folder.

Contact information

Before contacting, please make sure your game launches without SFSE. If SFSE doesn't seem to be working, first follow the steps in the FAQ and then attach everything in \My Games\Starfield\SFSE\Logs\ to an email.

Make sure to include the log file as an attachment

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
