About this mod Machine translation

Play as Exo in Destiny 2, a synthetic body with a human mind designed during the Golden Age of Mankind! Choose from numerous options in character creation in Destiny 2:

  • 14 unique faces (7 male and 7 female)
  • 20 accessories
  • Face/Accessories 27 colors
  • 8 face decals per face (27 colors)
  • Eyes and teeth 9 colors (voice light)

Plus my interpretation of the Exo body based on the Pathfinder armor (credit to HooliG4N87), with 8 skin tones (credit to Boris4774)!

Before customizing your Exo character, read the Exo Race Customization Guide in the Articles section for more information!

If your game version is 1.8.88, please install the CharGenMenu 1.8.88 patch to fix the "Select a background to continue" error; not required if you are playing 1.8.86

*You can choose not to play as Exo, just disable ExoRacePlayer.esm

Also check out Exo Race NPCs, which replaces some of the NPCs in the game with Exos in a friendly way!

Known issues

Custom face decals work a little differently than you might think. For more information, see the Exo Race customization guide in the Articles section.

The jaw does not move when the Exo npc talks. (The entire face, including the chin, counts as eyebrows, and the eyebrows obviously don’t move when speaking)

The neck may pinch slightly into some garments and the gloves may pinch slightly into some sleeves.

Any garment that doesn't cover the arms or legs will make the skin texture incorrect or invisible. Please report them to the discussion tab so I can start feasibility research on potential clothing patch mods.

During character customization in the new game, your character will be wearing space underwear that visibly pinches her body. Fully fixing this issue would require modifications to MQ101, which is also a surefire way to conflict with many other mods, so I'm sticking with the current solution and adding this visual clipping as a side effect.

Sometimes the game crashes when trying to open the charging menu. This is a CharGenMenu mod issue and the most certain solution at the moment is to try again...

Install

Install using the mod manager of your choice, or copy the files manually if you know what you're doing (the .ba2 file is located next to the .esm file)

Place the main file (ExoRace.esm) into your load order. I recommend the Plugins.txt Enabler to load .esm plugins, see its mod page for instructions. Don't forget to get all its prerequisites and don't forget to add an asterisk * before the plugin you want to load!

Place the player race patch (ExoRacePlayer.esm) into your load order to play as Exo. If you only need this mod as a prerequisite for the Exo NPC mod, and don't want to play as an Exo, don't put it in your load order/remove this file.

compatibility

Game compatibility

Works on new games or existing saves.

Compatible with any original or modified spacesuit/helmet.

Compatible with costumes, but may have incorrect textures/invisible limbs if the costume has exposed skin on its limbs.

If you're playing as Exo, you'll need to include any patches that modify player records. Example: A mod that increases star energy capacity/charge as an .esm plugin

Technical details

ExoRace.esm: Requires patching with other race mods, non-replacement mods that add more face customization, and mods that modify ENV_CND_CanBreathe_Completely [CNDF:001BBAB4]. Does not conflict with mods that add new/modify existing chargen presets.

ExoRacePlayer.esm: Requires a patch with a mod that modifies player records. Also changed:

```
Overrides any other changes to:
HeadPartsChargenOptionsMale [FLST:0003D9AF]
HeadPartsChargenOptionsFemale [FLST:0003D9B0]
CharGenPresets [FLST:0003F551]
Modifies armor record Clothes_GenWare_01 "Space Undersuit" [ARMO:00165722]
```

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
