Cozy Desert Farm

🌵 **Remastered version coming soon**

This is an older mod and is currently quite outdated. While it's technically available in version 1.6, I wanted to add some new features that the mod is now capable of. To this end, I will be remaking this mod in the near future. The map itself should remain mostly unchanged, with mostly updating the code and changing the map to be an add-on farm rather than replacing the existing map. Stay tuned!

🏜️ Looking for a new and unique experience in Stardew Valley?

Why not try farming in the desert! This desert farm will be a challenging piece of land because space is limited and the desert sand does not allow for the use of sprinklers. But give it some time and you might discover some special features of this farm.

✨ Features

  • **Unlockable Areas**: As your tools upgrade, you can unlock new areas, including two small caves and a mesa overlooking the land. These new areas all have water sources and workable soil, and **allow** the use of sprinklers. These locations are still on the farm map, so farm buildings can be built or moved to any of these areas
  • **Mysterious Cave**: A locked door with a mysterious skull-shaped keyhole will eventually give you a new cave area that counts as an indoor location and therefore allows for growing non-seasonal crops** and** using wine barrels
  • **Desert Shortcut**: A narrow path along the cliffs and river will eventually give you a shortcut into the desert, but it won't be fully opened until you complete the Vault Collection Pack and restart the bus
  • **Fishing Resources**: Although water is scarce in the desert, there is a small pond in each area and a thin river in the main area. There are limited river fish (including sandfish) available to catch in all of these water bodies (note: this only works if you replace the standard farm)
  • **Spatial Optimization**: I tried to add some spatial optimization to the map while maintaining the natural aesthetic. There will be extra space for the farmable land in the caves and mesas, but I made sure there was enough space for a full 3x3 or 5x5. Likewise, many cliffs have flat space for barns, chicken coops, silos, fishponds or greenhouses

📥 Installation instructions

Download and place in mods folder. Content Patcher is required.

**NOTE**: The main file has a shortcut to the desert, which may interfere with other mods that also edit desert maps. Not compatible with the Stardew Valley expansion. There is an optional file that is a desert farm but without a shortcut to the desert, should be compatible with SVE and other desert editing mods.

📝 IMPORTANT NOTE

  • Replaces standard farm by default. You can select the farm to replace (any farm except beach farm) in the .config file, but be aware that this will change a few things
  • The initial accessible area (no sprinklers allowed) is slightly less than half the size of a standard map
  • A bucket filled with water is the source of water
  • Once the conditions to unlock a cave or desert shortcut are completed, the game will not patch them until the start of the next day
  • The wine barrel works in a locked cave and since it is an indoor location, crops can be grown out of season just like in a greenhouse
  • Horses cannot enter any cave due to the size of the cave entrance
  • The main version of the farm map adds an edit section in the desert. If you use a mod that edits desert maps, there will be compatibility issues
  • There may be compatibility issues with palette mods due to using the original tile set

🔗 Recommended modules

  • **Chests Everywhere**: I almost always recommend this, but it's especially helpful on this map because there are several highly separated areas
  • **Smaller Fish Ponds**: Small farms should have small buildings
  • **Custom Cask Mods**: You have extra barrel space, might as well e …

Install & use Install: SMAPI mod (Stardew Valley standard)

  1. Install SMAPI first (Stardew Valley's mod loader): download it from smapi.io, run 'install on Windows.bat' and pick your game folder.
  2. Unzip the archive from playbuff and find the folder that contains manifest.json — that folder is the mod.
  3. Copy that whole folder into Stardew Valley/Mods/.
  4. Launch the game through SMAPI (run StardewModdingAPI.exe or set it as the launch option). The console before the title screen lists each mod's load result.

Cheat-style tools may not need SMAPI — unzip and run them as the readme describes. Back up your save before editing it; SMAPI lists failed mods in its console.
