Umbrellas
🌂 **Let NPCs also hold umbrellas! ** This mod allows adding custom umbrellas to NPCs, adding more life to your Stardew Valley!
✨ Main functions
- NPCs can carry umbrellas in the game
- Supports making unique umbrella designs for different characters
- Automatically handle the up and down swing effect of umbrellas when walking
- Easily add custom umbrellas via Content Patcher
🎨 For modders
This module mainly implements two functions:
- Overlay umbrella texture on NPC sprites
- Edit the NPC sprite according to the content pack and adjust the hand position to make it look like it is holding an umbrella
📐 Umbrella texture specifications
The umbrella texture is a 56×128 pixel image containing 8 cells:
- 4 cells on the left are drawn in front of the NPC
- The 4 cells on the right are drawn behind the NPC
- First row: character facing downwards
- Second row: character facing right
- Third row: character facing upwards
- Fourth row: character facing left
🔧 Technical implementation
To add an umbrella model through Content Patcher, you need to set the following properties:
- **Texture**: The name of the texture resource used
- **Offset**: Draw the offset vector of the umbrella
- **Deletes**: Specify a list of rectangular areas in the specified NPC sprite to be replaced with transparency
- **Copies**: Specify the list of areas to copy and paste

Install & use Install: SMAPI mod (Stardew Valley standard)
- Install SMAPI first (Stardew Valley's mod loader): download it from smapi.io, run 'install on Windows.bat' and pick your game folder.
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and find the folder that contains manifest.json — that folder is the mod.
- Copy that whole folder into Stardew Valley/Mods/.
- Launch the game through SMAPI (run StardewModdingAPI.exe or set it as the launch option). The console before the title screen lists each mod's load result.
Cheat-style tools may not need SMAPI — unzip and run them as the readme describes. Back up your save before editing it; SMAPI lists failed mods in its console.
