Special Spouse Dialogue Framework
🎮 **Special Spouse Dialogue Frame** - Add exclusive dialogue for your Stardew Valley spouse!
---
✨ Framework introduction
Have you ever wanted an NPC spouse to say a specific line in a special situation? Like after a wedding night, or the day before an important event? Since marriage dialogue has a higher priority than normal dialogue topics, achieving this effect is often complicated.
💡 **This framework was born to solve this problem! **
---
🛠️Technical advantages
**The traditional way requires writing code like this:**
```
// Add special lines for the morning after the wedding
// Marriage dialogue is checked before CT, so a completely different set of indoor/rainy day dialogue needs to be loaded depending on whether CT is active or not
{
"Action": "EditData",
"Target": "Characters/Dialogue/MarriageDialogueSebastian",
"When": {"HasConversationTopic": "{{ModId}}_Topic_WeddingNight"},
"Entries": {
"Indoor_Day_0": "{{i18n:weddingNight.Indoor_Day_Sebastian}}",
//...needs to cover a large number of dialogue keys
},
}
// And this method cannot even replace terrace conversations, outdoor conversations, spouse room conversations...
```
**After using this framework, the code becomes so concise:**
```
{
"Action": "EditData",
"Target": "Mods/Kantrip.SpecialSpouseDialogue/Dialogue",
"When": {
"HasMod": "Kantrip.SpecialSpouseDialogue",
"HasConversationTopic": "{{ModId}}_Topic_WeddingNight",
},
"Entries": {
"Morning_Sebastian": "{{i18n:weddingNight.Morning_Sebastian}}",
"Night_Sebastian": "{{i18n:weddingNight.Night_Sebastian}}",
},
}
```

📖 Guidelines for Mod Authors
Similar to my other mod WeddingAnniversaries, this mod creates a custom dialogue resource that can be written via a content patch. If this resource is filled at the start of the day, the NPC spouse will use that line instead of any other vanilla lines in the game that may have been queued.

🔑 Dialogue key description
This module supports the following dialogue keys, where [NPC] is the name of the NPC (such as "Abigail", "Harvey", etc.):
- **Morning_[NPC]**: This is the dialogue line displayed when the player first talks to the relevant NPC spouse
- **Night_[NPC]**: This is the dialogue line shown after 6pm, just like the default content patch Indoor_Night key
You can write to one or both keys. When checking for custom dialogue, SpecialSpouseDialogue will retain the original marriage dialogue if the given key is empty.
---
⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE
This module will completely replace the regular spouse dialogue when the dialogue resources of SpecialSpouseDialogue are written. This is what it's designed to do. However, it is important to note that this means that the following will not be displayed:
- Schedule conversation (leave/return)
- Indoor/rainy/night conversations
- Terrace conversation
- Spouse room dialogue
- outdoor conversations
- etc
🔄 SpecialSpouseDialogue will read this resource on **OnDayStarted** and clear this resource on **OnDayEnding**, so you don't need to perform any cleanup operations.

🌟 **Make your spouse conversations more personal and lively! **
Install & use Install: SMAPI mod (Stardew Valley standard)
- Install SMAPI first (Stardew Valley's mod loader): download it from smapi.io, run 'install on Windows.bat' and pick your game folder.
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and find the folder that contains manifest.json — that folder is the mod.
- Copy that whole folder into Stardew Valley/Mods/.
- Launch the game through SMAPI (run StardewModdingAPI.exe or set it as the launch option). The console before the title screen lists each mod's load result.
Cheat-style tools may not need SMAPI — unzip and run them as the readme describes. Back up your save before editing it; SMAPI lists failed mods in its console.
