Sleepy Host (Multiplayer Mod)
🎮 Module introduction
Sleepy Host is a clever solution for your Stardew Valley multiplayer experience! As a long-time gamer, I've found that multiplayer, while fun, can be very challenging to coordinate playtime with a group, especially a large group.
🌟 Source of inspiration
This mod is inspired by Minecraft's standalone server experience:
- In Minecraft, players can enter and leave the server at any time
- Time will not pass when no players are online
- The world will only be affected if at least one player is logged in
In contrast, Stardew Valley's multiplayer experience is different because the console itself is a player. This means that for the entire group to play together, the farmer must be online.
⚙️ How it works
The operating mechanism of this module is very simple and intuitive:
- **Automatic Bedtime**: At the beginning of a new day, the host will immediately move to bed and open the "Do you want to sleep tonight?" dialog box
- **Waiting conditions**: The host will keep this dialog box open until any of the following conditions are met:
- All other players in the session have fallen asleep
- The time is approaching 2:00 AM
- **Auto Confirm**: After meeting the conditions, automatically select the "Yes" option to fall asleep
💡 **IMPORTANT**: If the mod is installed but the current game is not multiplayer, or the player is not the host, the automatic behavior will not occur. Only multiplayer game hosts will see these behaviors.
🚀 Transforming the multiplayer experience
This mod revolutionizes the way multiplayer games are played:
**New way to play**:
- The host who originally created the farm will no longer be a playable farmer
- The role of the host is simply to keep the game running for everyone
- Possibility to set up a dedicated game instance that hosts multiplayer sessions 24/7 (similar to Minecraft dedicated servers)
**IMPORTANT ADVICE**: All players and hosts should use a **separate auto-pause multiplayer mod**, such as WAIT by aurpine.
🔄Perfect combination
Using Sleepy Host with a mod like WAIT means:
- If no player (other than the host) is logged in, time will remain paused and the farm is at a standstill
- Once someone logs in, time will be restored and players can play normally
- When everyone logs out, time pauses again
- Crucially, the host is always hosted and players can come and go as they please
⏰ Intelligent sleep mechanism
When a non-console player is in the game and chooses to sleep for the day:
- Sleepy Host will wait until all other players have fallen asleep before telling the host to sleep
- If the time is about to reach 2:00 AM and all other players have not fallen asleep yet, the mod will also put the host to sleep
- This ensures the game is never stuck on the current day number and unable to progress

Install & use Install: SMAPI mod (Stardew Valley standard)
- Install SMAPI first (Stardew Valley's mod loader): download it from smapi.io, run 'install on Windows.bat' and pick your game folder.
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and find the folder that contains manifest.json — that folder is the mod.
- Copy that whole folder into Stardew Valley/Mods/.
- Launch the game through SMAPI (run StardewModdingAPI.exe or set it as the launch option). The console before the title screen lists each mod's load result.
Cheat-style tools may not need SMAPI — unzip and run them as the readme describes. Back up your save before editing it; SMAPI lists failed mods in its console.
