No Seeds For Coin - Seed Shortage

🌱 Module function

This mod aims to remove all seeds that can be purchased with gold in stores in and around Stardew Valley, unless the store has a plot reason to have these seeds. That means the travel van might still have those seeds, who knows? Best to check it out every Friday and Sunday!

⚙️Technical Notes

Due to technical limitations, seeds from Cornucopia - More Flowers/More Crops cannot currently be removed from Joja Mart. I like to pretend that Joja Mart uses very unethical methods to secure their monopoly on these seeds. (If you use SVE, the original seeds may still appear due to SVE adjusting the seed price)

💡 Source of inspiration

This mod is inspired by Nein's Find Your Own Seeds, and part of the code comes from it. Once I start using that mod, I hope to also be able to remove the seeds added by the mod, and be able to make the setup modular so that I can switch mod seeds individually based on personal play style or story settings.

🎮 Game Settings

Maybe some seeds are still available because they were imported from elsewhere, unaffected by the factors that affected Pelican Town's seed shortage; maybe in the following year, all seeds suddenly become available again as Caroline expands her sunroom to the max and starts a seed business to supply Pierre's shop; whatever you imagine, you can change the settings to match your setting.

⚙️ Configuration options

If you do want certain seeds to still be available for purchase, the mod can be configured to re-enable the seeds at any time. Seeds that cannot be purchased with gold coins are still available, with strong support for bartering. I may add the option to remove these torrents in a future update.

🎯 Recommended combination

It is encouraged to combine this mod with the following mods for a still challenging but balanced gaming experience:

  • Re-Mixed Seeds
  • Progressive Seed Maker
  • Mixed Seeds From Forage
  • More Mixed Seeds from Weeds

🔧 Compatibility

Currently compatible with the following mods:

  • Cornucopia - More Crops
  • Cornucopia - More Flowers
  • Bonster's Combined Crops and Recipes
  • Neo's Succulent Farm Redux
  • Passerby Cemetery
  • Quaint Living 2
  • Serene Meadow (Thanks Adradis!)
  • Sunberry Village
  • Visit Mount Vapius (you can still buy seeds with Vapius coins)
  • Wildflour Atelier Goods - Compatibility is automatic as Wildflour did not add any seeds to the store that can be purchased with gold coins
  • Ridgeside Village: I decided not to remove all seeds from Jeric's shop so as not to take away his livelihood since he doesn't sell anything else and I didn't want to see his shop completely empty. I also didn't remove the seeds from Heap's shop because their items were already scarce and they could now have some seeds as rewards. I may change my mind at some point.

🚀 Future plans

  • Remove saplings
  • Fix for Joja Mart's Cornucopia seeds
  • Send letters with mixed seeds as a starting boost

📦 Installation instructions

  • Make sure SMAPI and Content Patcher are installed
  • Download this mod
  • Unzip the downloaded zip file
  • Place the unzipped folder into your mods folder
  • The module is now installed. Configuration files are generated when the game is loaded and can be accessed directly in the mod folder, or via GMCM. Anything can be toggled at any time and changes should take effect immediately
  • If you encounter problems installing this mod, it is best to go to the Stardew Valley Discord for help

Install & use Install: SMAPI mod (Stardew Valley standard)

  1. Install SMAPI first (Stardew Valley's mod loader): download it from smapi.io, run 'install on Windows.bat' and pick your game folder.
  2. Unzip the archive from playbuff and find the folder that contains manifest.json — that folder is the mod.
  3. Copy that whole folder into Stardew Valley/Mods/.
  4. Launch the game through SMAPI (run StardewModdingAPI.exe or set it as the launch option). The console before the title screen lists each mod's load result.

Cheat-style tools may not need SMAPI — unzip and run them as the readme describes. Back up your save before editing it; SMAPI lists failed mods in its console.
