A gift-giving system for busy farmers: Make your mailbox work for you!
pen pal
🎮 **NPCs, love them or hate them, but you can't ignore them - at least, if you want a perfect ending. **
🤔 Have you encountered these problems?
- 😫 Afraid of receiving a kindness mission from Mr. Qi?
- ⏰ Love interacting with 100+ NPCs but can’t find enough time to give each of them two gifts in a week?
- 🚪 Tired of waiting 8 hours for Sam and Sebastian to leave the room?
- 🌾 Too busy running the farm/mining to play Santa around town?
- ❓ Do you think it’s strange? Your friends can mail you gifts, but you seem to be blacklisted by the post office?
✨ **Don’t worry: Pelican Town Postal Service has you covered! ** Whatever sins grandpa committed in the Mesozoic Era have now been forgiven and PTPS is back to accepting your emails.
(In other words: **Hold the item and interact with the mailbox to mail the item to the NPC of your choice! **)

📦 Gift function
The Pen Pal mod is designed to fit naturally into the game without introducing too much complexity through new items, mechanics, etc. It has two simple functions: gift mailing and gift return.
✉️ Gift Mailing
To open the gifting menu, simply interact with your mailbox under the following conditions:
- ✅ Completed "How to Win Friends" story mission (this requirement can be disabled in settings)
- 📭 Your mailbox is empty, that is, all messages have been read
- 🎁 You are holding a giftable item - not machines, furniture, etc.
Then, click on the portrait of the NPC you want to send to and confirm your selection! They will receive your gift overnight; PTPS is **very** efficient.
🎯Giftability
Pen Pal follows the same rules as the original game in determining whether certain items can be given to certain NPCs. Since items don't "arrive" until overnight/morning (depending on mod settings), the menu provides some visual aid:
- 👤 Normal giftable NPCs: no special shading or coloring
- 📋 NPCs with active quests: Hover over the quest icon to view details
- 🎂 NPCs with birthdays today (or tomorrow if using next day scheduling)
- 🔄 NPCs who have been queued but have not yet "sent" gifts today
- ❌ Not available for gifting: hover over portrait to see why
🔍 Filter
PenPal offers filtering functionality for players running many expansion packs and needing to sift through hundreds of NPCs:
- 🔎 Name search: start typing, results will be updated in real time
- 😊 Response: Click once to limit to favorite gifts; click again to limit favorite gifts; click again to reset
- 📋 Quests: Clicking is limited to NPCs with active quests
- 🎂 Birthday: Clicks are limited to NPCs with birthdays
- 🔄 Reset: Click to clear all filters and display all NPCs in the game

📬 Gift Return
Do you think you can use the "overnight" system to cheat and bypass normal gift-giving rules? You are such a naughty boy/girl. Fortunately, pen pals don't directly punish you for this cheap trick, but PTPS will follow the rules even if you don't, and if an NPC is determined to be ungiftable when it's supposed to receive a gift, the gift will be returned to you in the mail.

⚙️ Settings
It is recommended to use the general module configuration menu. Settings include:

- ✅ **Confirm before mailing** - Whether to display the confirmation dialog box after selecting the recipient
- 🏆 **Required Mission** - Whether the "How to Win Friends" mission must be completed before interacting with the mailbox to display the gift menu
- 📅 **Email Scheduling** - The time when the NPC actually receives the gift
- 💝 **Friendship Multiplier (Gift)** - The scaling applied to points earned by sending gifts
- 📋 **Enable Tasks** - Whether you can use your email to complete item delivery tasks and send gifts
- 🎯 **Friendship Multiplier (Tasks)** - Scaling factor applied to points earned for completing tasks via mail

Install & use Install: SMAPI mod (Stardew Valley standard)
- Install SMAPI first (Stardew Valley's mod loader): download it from smapi.io, run 'install on Windows.bat' and pick your game folder.
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and find the folder that contains manifest.json — that folder is the mod.
- Copy that whole folder into Stardew Valley/Mods/.
- Launch the game through SMAPI (run StardewModdingAPI.exe or set it as the launch option). The console before the title screen lists each mod's load result.
Cheat-style tools may not need SMAPI — unzip and run them as the readme describes. Back up your save before editing it; SMAPI lists failed mods in its console.
