Spoilage

🌟 **Add a real food spoilage system to Stardew Valley to make fresh items and refrigerators more meaningful! **

🍎 Function introduction

This mod implements a simple corruption system for Stardew Valley, making it more meaningful to save items and refrigerators while curbing some extreme hoarding tendencies. After all, who would keep raw fish in their backpack for months?

When an item becomes corrupted, it is converted to trash by default, with a green marker to show what it once was.

⏳Corruption Mechanism

Each perishable category has an independent "Days to spoil" setting, with the default values being:

  • 🍓 **Fruits**: 5 days
  • 🥕 **Vegetables**: 5 days
  • 🌿 **Leafy Greens**: 4 days
  • 🌸 **Flowers**: 3 days
  • 🥚 **Eggs**: 3 days
  • 🥛 **Milk**: 2 days
  • 🍳 **Cooked food**: 2 days
  • 🥩 **Meat**: 1 day
  • 🐟 **Fish**: 1 day

**Leafy vegetables category is used to collect items**

**Spoilage rates for different containers:**

  • ❄️ **Fridge**: 0.1x speed
  • 🗄️ **Stone Box**: 0.5x speed
  • 🎒 **Player Backpack**: 1.5x speed

Corruption calculations are done the morning after the save, so if unexpected corruption occurs, you can change the settings and reload the save.

⭐ Quality System

By default, items with a "Quality" star lose one quality point each time they are about to become corrupted, and have their "Age" reset to 0. Iridium products have 4 quality points and require two corruption cycles to reach Venus quality (2).

You can turn off quality degradation and/or corruption features in the configuration.

⚙️ Custom settings

Some items may not be accurately classified into the corruption category, you can set exceptions in the configuration. For example:

```
"CustomSpoilage": {
"Sap": {
"age": 0,
"category": 9999,
"spoiled": null
}
}
```

This means that the sap will never go rancid, even if it is classified in the leafy greens category for some reason.

**Category Number:**

  • Leafy greens: -81
  • Vegetables: -75
  • Fish: -4
  • Eggs: -5
  • Milk: -6
  • Cooking: -7
  • Fruit: -79
  • Flowers: -80
  • Meat: -14

📱 Display effect

By default, the age and number of days remaining are shown in the item description, and corrupted items are marked. Corrupted items will have their ParentSheetIndex changed to 168 (junk index) and their quality set to -4 so that the game and other mods don't mistake them for uncorrupted items. Garbage sprites for corrupted items will appear green in the menu.

Install & use Install: SMAPI mod (Stardew Valley standard)

  1. Install SMAPI first (Stardew Valley's mod loader): download it from smapi.io, run 'install on Windows.bat' and pick your game folder.
  2. Unzip the archive from playbuff and find the folder that contains manifest.json — that folder is the mod.
  3. Copy that whole folder into Stardew Valley/Mods/.
  4. Launch the game through SMAPI (run StardewModdingAPI.exe or set it as the launch option). The console before the title screen lists each mod's load result.

Cheat-style tools may not need SMAPI — unzip and run them as the readme describes. Back up your save before editing it; SMAPI lists failed mods in its console.
