Change horse sound effects
🎵 **A perfect horse footsteps replacement solution! ** Say goodbye to those annoyances that interfere with ordinary footsteps or make everything sound like horses!
---
✨ Main functions
- 🐎 **Personalized Horse Sounds**: Set a unique sound for each horse
- 🔧 **Strong Compatibility**: Works perfectly with Multiple Horses mod
- 🎮 **Single and Multiplayer Support**: Works well in various game modes
- ⚙️ **Flexible Configuration**: Easily enable/disable via GMCM or configuration files
🎯 How to use
To replace the sound effects for a specific horse, you need to add 3 wav files to the assets folder of the mod:
- `HorseName_thudStep.wav` (mud footsteps)
- `HorseName_stoneStep.wav` (stone footsteps)
- `HorseName_woodyStep.wav` (wooden footsteps)
Just replace `HorseName` with your horse’s name!
🌟 Batch replacement
If you want to replace all horse sounds, just add the following file:
- `thudStep.wav`
- `stoneStep.wav`
- `woodyStep.wav`
**NOTE**: Horse name specific files will overwrite these generic files.
🔧 Advanced configuration
The module will mute all horse sounds by default. You can adjust it in the following ways:
- Visual settings using GMCM menu
- Edit configuration files for more advanced options
- Set a specific sound effect to play only once instead of looping
🐛 Fix original bug
This mod also fixes a vanilla game bug: in multiplayer mode, you couldn't hear other players' footsteps while riding a horse until you dismounted. **This fix will take effect regardless of whether horse footsteps sound replacement is enabled**, so you can download this mod just for this fix!
💡 Usage suggestions
- If you use Alternative Textures to repaint your horse's skin, you can get a more complete personalized experience with this mod.
- In multiplayer games, all players need to install the same mods and sound effects files to hear consistent sound effects

Install & use Install: SMAPI mod (Stardew Valley standard)
- Install SMAPI first (Stardew Valley's mod loader): download it from smapi.io, run 'install on Windows.bat' and pick your game folder.
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and find the folder that contains manifest.json — that folder is the mod.
- Copy that whole folder into Stardew Valley/Mods/.
- Launch the game through SMAPI (run StardewModdingAPI.exe or set it as the launch option). The console before the title screen lists each mod's load result.
Cheat-style tools may not need SMAPI — unzip and run them as the readme describes. Back up your save before editing it; SMAPI lists failed mods in its console.
