Hinaloth's Immersive and Defeatable Modlist

This is my personal list of mods that I find add to immersion and follow the canon of the lore/universe. Some of you may want to add or remove mods from the list. Now I should consider this a WIP as I figure out what is and isn't fully compatible, and the formatting that makes it easy to read. Please bear with me.

After years of struggling with reinstalling my modlist every time, I decided to make myself a basic system installation guide to speed up the installation process. Maybe then I won't have to spend three days playing a game.

0: tool

Before the wheel there were tools. Not the kind you want to bother, but the kind that actually works. These are them. Get these before you start.

1: Engine Fixes, Requirements and Basic Functionality Mod

1.0 Run the game once.

It will create the .ini file, which we will edit as needed. Use the regular launcher, change the options in it to match your computer's configuration, start the game, and then close it.

Optional: Install any Creation Club items you may have/want. If you have them, an optional patch will be provided for them and a warning will be issued if an incompatibility occurs.

1.1: All issues fixed.

Skyrim is known to be an off-roader. SE at least fixes some issues for x64 users, but leaves so many bugs that we need to start from the basics: fix them all. They are in no particular order (unless first making sure their dependencies come first), but you can rely on all of them as needed to even get the game past the title screen.

1.2: Welcome to upgrade

There are a lot of things Skyrim could do better (or almost do) just on a simple engine level. These mods are not said to be fixed, but they may be.

2: Basic patch and basic QOL

2.1: Really necessary

Simply put, this makes Skyrim a less buggy game, or at least a better game.

2.2: Fix program graphics bug

These mods are not full texture updates (that will come later), fixing graphical details that may break your immersion.

2.3: Fix program sound bug

Again, not a complete sound upgrade or anything like that, but simple sound fixes to make the game sound less weird.

2.4: Very popular quality of life

These, while not the most requested mods in the universe, provide enough noticeable upgrades to the game's immersion and gameplay to make them almost indispensable.

3: Run LOOT to fix your load order and test your game.

If you're not satisfied, uninstall the culprit mod, try a new configuration if possible, or find an alternative. If the game crashes, start deactivating mods one by one until you find the culprit. Check the mod page and forums for compatibility patches as needed.

4: Unnecessary patches and premium QOL

4.1: Higher quality of life!

More stuff can help the game become more fun and immersive. While not as significant as previous products, it's still good enough to almost guarantee every installation.

4.2: Basic graphics updates

It's not quite time for an upgrade yet, but these will make any game look a lot more polished, even without the gig having texture packs installed.

4.3: Weather

Skyrim has a surprisingly wide selection of weather modes. I will always love the clear skies and clean design of the original game. So instead of installing something that would change it from A to Z, I went with my favorite ensemble. If you prefer one over the other, stick with it and remember to tinker carefully, weather mods are highly incompatible with each other.

Note: If you want to make a personal collection, please install all modules in a row before installing KYNE's True Storm patch.

5: Run loot to fix your load order and test your game.

If you're not satisfied, uninstall the culprit mod, try a new configuration if possible, or find an alte …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
