The xEdit script batch edits mod-specific .nif files and changes their Glossity and Specular Strength appearance values.

Well, I searched online for some easy ways to change the sheen of armor and clothing, and the only batch edit that came up involved creating a new folder and duplicating all the meshes. I thought this method would be quite tedious to set up even with MO (although easier to maintain afterwards), so I wrote this script to change the glossiness of all armor/clothes in a specific mod via xEdit.

Starting with version 2.0, a simple GUI is included so constant editing is no longer necessary!

1.) Apply the script on the entire mod or select the ARMA record of the armor you want to change.

2.) Before running the script, change the constants fGlossiness and fSpecular in the script to your liking.

2.a) If you only want to edit female clothing, change the sModelElements constant to "Female World Model\MOD3".

3.) Run the script and make the coffee yourself, it may take a while if you edit a lot of armor.

-------------------Install-------------------

1.) Download and unzip the archive from the "File" tab to the "Edit Scripts" folder in your xEdit installation.

2.) That’s it.

The script opens all .nifs (_1 and _0 versions) in the selected ARMA record and attempts to edit them. Depending on your drive, this may take a long time (on an SSD it took about 1 second per ARMA record). Even if it takes a while, it still requires manually editing the entire load order. The important thing is that it changes the .nifs for the specific mod loaded in xEdit, so you need shiny armor! (If you want to maintain your luster while naked, then do it by hand, then adding a little bonus to this script is too much - maybe consider it if there's enough interest in it).

------------------It's useless! -------------------

Please tell me what's wrong in the comments or bug report tab and I'll see what I can do. My xEdit scripts are very limited, but I'll try my best to make things work.

Well, I searched web for some easy way to change the gloss of armors and clothing and the only batch edits that came up included creating a new folder and copying all meshes in there. I think such an approach is quite tedious to set up even with MO (even though easier to maintain afterwards), and so I've written this script that changes gloss for all armors/clothes inside particular mod via xEdit.

------------------- How to Use -------------------

As of version 2.0, simple GUI is included, so no more constant editing!

1.) Either apply the script on the whole mod or select ARMA records of the armors you want to change.

2.) Before running the script, change constants fGlossiness and fSpecular in the script to your liking.

2.a) If you want to edit female outfits only, change sModelElements constant to 'Female world model\MOD3'.

3.) Run the script and go make yourself a coffee, it might take a while if you edit a lot of armors.

------------------- Installation -------------------

1.) download and extract archive from Files tab to "Edit Scripts" folder in your xEdit installation.

2.) that's it.

------------------- How it Works -------------------

Script opens all.nifs (_1 and _0 versions) in selected ARMA records and tries to edit them. Depending on your drive, this can take quite long (It took me approx. 1sec per ARMA record on SSD). Even though it takes a while, it still beats hand editing your whole load orders. Important note is that it changes.nifs for particular mods loaded in xEdit, therefore it is up to you what armors you want to be glossy! (if you want to be glossy when naked, do that by hand please, it would be too much work for little reward to include in this script - might consider it if there is enough interest in it).

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
