Equip maps as held items (SE port from Skyrim Mod)
describe:
This mod allows you to craft (on a tanning stand with a quill, inkwell and leather) an equippable map. The map will use Skyrim's texture as the desktop map, so it is recommended that you download an alternative texture for it. I recommend my Immersive Terrain War Map because of its geographically accurate navigation perposes. NOTE: This mod takes advantage of how shields work in the game (and sit on shield points), so you have to hold 'blocks' to bring the map into view if you're in VR, if you don't have the map or it's translucent. You can make any of the following. You have to find some in the game first (like the treasure map):
*Hold map of Skyrim
- Solstheim map
*Treasure map
*Forsworn map
*Dragon Burial Map
*Delivery map
This is a port of the original Skyrim mod "Equip a Map" (<If you want to learn more about this mod check out this page, but come back here if you need support!) by ScarabMonkey (who got help from kellpossible). Â The conversion was made by reddit user u/hicsuntdracones-. Completed. While I did get permission from both of them to post the mod you should support it by posting here. While this mod works in Skyrim SE, it was converted with the intention of becoming more immersive in the VR version (works awesome!) and screenshots are being taken of the VR version.
In game:
Find a quill, inkwell, a leather, and then a tanning rack. These maps will be available under "Miscellaneous". Once crafted, they will receive their fair share from the "Outfits" section of your inventory.
If you don't want the hassle of finding inkwells/quills/leathers, put them in the console:
player.additem 0004C3C6 1
player.additem 0004C3C8 1
player.additem 000DB5D2 1
It is recommended that you replace the original map texture. There are a lot of mods created for Oldrim, and as long as you just install a texture they should work, as opposed to any kind of map overhaul mod. Â Download your map mod, extract it and manually fold the "texture" into your Skyrim Special Edition (or SkyrimVR) data folder. Reports say that Paddyy's HQ Skyrim map works well, and that Skyrim SE supports ExE Boss's Mods - Terrain Map (not as immersive but very accurate), but when I used this, there were some normal map issues and it had too much "glare". This mod takes advantage of how shields work in the game (and are at shield points) so you have to keep blocking the map from being brought into view if you are in VR, if you are not holding down the map or it will be semi-transparent.
Install:
Please note that I will not give general support on how to enable and use the mod. There are other (better) places to get this information.
Now, just download it using your favorite mod management program (Vortex/MO2/NMM), or install it manually (make sure mods are enabled, google), drag and drop the contents of the unzipped file into the Data directory in the Skryim Special version (or Skyrim VR, if that's what you're using) and add the .esm to your plugins.txt.

Description:
This mod allows you to craft (at tanning rack with quill, inkwell, and leather) an equip-able map. The map will use Skyrim's texture for the table maps, so it is recommended you download an alternative texture for it. I recommend my Immersive Topographic War Map as it is geographically accurate for navigating perposes. NOTE: This mod utilizes how shields work in game (and sits in a shield spot) so you have to hold 'block' to bring the map up into view, and if you're in VR if you don't hold the map up or it'll be translucent.  You can craft any of the following. Some (like treasure maps) of them you have to find in game first:
*Map of Skyrim's Holds
*Map of Solstheim
*Treasure maps
*Forsworn map
*Map of Dragon Burials
*Shipping Map

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
