About this mod Machine translation

Added two travel book vendors who hang out around Skyrim, ready to sell goodies for players to read when their paths cross.

Inspired by the Pack Horse Library and other traveling book vendors throughout history, this mod adds two NPC vendors who specialize in book sales and transportation. They travel between various settlements and inns in Skyrim, ready to barter with any interested readers who come in contact with them.

Character backstory:

Temra Shield-Piercer was born in Winterhold, where she grew up equal parts fascinated and fearful of the coming College of Winterhold and the knowledge of its dangers. Her curiosity leads her to learn what she fears and then learn to love it (much to the dismay of her friends and family). Eventually, she became disillusioned with the stubbornness of many of her fellow Nobel laureates and decided to spread knowledge to all of Skyrim - a mission that coincidentally gave her an excuse to get as many books as possible! Temra is an adept but limited mage and astute trader, but they find these paths to be dangerous - and worse, lonely - and soon seek a companion to guard her...

Mira Granite-Arm grew up with a distrust of magic and academia, like any true daughter of Skyrim, but her love for a good story eventually led her to bury her nose in books without the bard to provide live entertainment. If she had had a better singing voice or drumming or any skill on the lute, she might have devoted herself to studying the bardic arts, but alas, her talents lie in violent conflict rather than music and song. Fortunately, these same skills eventually led her to the Temra Shield-Piercer as the latter traveled the wild roads in search of companions and guardians, and it wasn't long before Mira was as dedicated to Temra's mission as she had quickly become to Temra herself. .

(Bonus points if you spot their name references.)

Future plans (WiP):

Add map markers to make them easier to find (once I figure out how!)

Give them a pack of goats/mules/etc to "carry their goods" or at least it seems like (once I figure out how!)

Adding more unique, rare, or even new content books for them to sell (I'll be writing about some and am happy to accept others who want to share!)

Strap some books around your waist for a more powerful "traveling librarian" aesthetic (waiting for permission from the original creator!)

Have them stop at dusk and let the camp sleep instead of walking all night (once I figure out how!)

Add custom voice dialogue for better interaction and character backstory (once I figure out how and get some voices!)

Any suggestions or tutorials regarding any of the above, or other improvements to the mod, are heartily welcome! I'm a very new model and I'm very open to tips, suggestions and criticism. Especially those that come with very detailed, clear, simple instructions. Condescending details can even be good. Take me there. Kids like you. Yes.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
