Implement manual mining methods for VR users. Now you need to actually swing your pickaxe on the ore node.

describe:

I've been enjoying this amazing experience in VR ever since the Skyrim community received my crowd-funded VR headset. One thing I can't stand, however, is Skyrim VR's method for mining ore nodes. It basically activates the normal third-party mining animation, but completes it immediately, thus draining the nodes immediately. I felt like I was missing out on a truly immersive experience!

Another way is that you can manually equip the pickaxe and then hit the node, but... the default game script relies on the 1h weapon animation to control the strikes.. of course in VR you don't have that. So when you swing once in VR, you end up registering multiple hits quickly. This will immediately drain the node (unless you can somehow tell the invisible hitbox to land exactly once).

so..

This fix just keeps all default scripts. I just extended the default script and changed the behavior to the following:

Activating the node will attempt to automatically equip any mining tools in your inventory. You can then swing your choice around the node, it takes about 3 attacks to mine a block of ore.. so keep swinging until the ore is exhausted. All default messages still apply, for example if you don't have a suitable pickaxe. I also added a pickaxe strike sound to every active strike.

Also.. note.. I intentionally added a switch to prevent registration attacks, which will prevent fast love clicks from registering if they are too fast. The downside to this is that if you strike too eagerly, you can feel a bit disconnected from the sound produced. (For those who are curious: it only registers a 'strike' every 0.7 seconds).

For the best experience, imagine swinging a pickaxe in real life... try simulating it with your controller.

One final point:

This mod is designed to make your mining life tougher while increasing immersion. If you're impatient and someone likes to use console cheat codes, this mod is unlikely to be for you. :-)

Install:

On the Files page you will find two versions. One for users of the Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition patch and one for non-USSEP users. Choose the version that works for you. The only difference is that ore nodes in Blackreach display a USSEP modified message when depleted.

Simply install via your mod manager and include in your load order. It's unlikely that any other mod will outdo these changes, but if they just lower it in your load order.

delete:

If removed, this should have no lasting impact on your game. If you have any questions after removing it from your loadout order, I recommend running Fallrim Tools - Resaver.

Wood cutting vegetables:

You may notice that the esp is called RealisticMiningAndChoppingVR.esp. I plan to implement a similar wood shredding solution in an upcoming update. Doing this is a little more complicated because I want to animate the log itself.. allowing you to manually split it with an ax swing.

Optional files:

Unlimited mining nodes - This is via user request. It is a simple one-line edit of the default MineOreScript, containing the following edits: -------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------- Edit: Realistic mining and felling: Set this value to 1Million; This makes all undiscovered ore nodes pay out 1 Million for each user requested resource. ;No other changes to this script. ;--------------------------------------------------------------------------

int property ResourceCountTotal = 1000000 auto

{How many resources before exhaustion}; ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------;End editing; -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There was an older version of Skyrim that did the same thing, but it used a very old version of the default script, and Bethesda has since improved the logic significantly. This edit is for the default M …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
