About this mod Machine translation

The Vanity Mirror is an equippable inventory item that will open a limited competition menu, allowing you to change your appearance anytime and anywhere for free. PORTED TO SE.

Disclaimer: I do not own any assets in this port. I have received permission from the original author to port this mod to SE (as evidenced by the image above). I'll post the original description here, slightly modified for SE users. The original mod can be found here:

PORTER'S NOTE: In addition to porting the mod, I also created an optional file. All it does is change the crafting recipe to make it more challenging (now using Malachite and HearthFires Glass instead of Silver). You don't need it to use this mod.

"The Vanity Mirror is an equippable inventory item that will open the limited racing menu, allowing you to change your appearance anytime, anywhere for free. It's fast, easy, and safe."

"One of my favorite things about character creation in Skyrim is the war paint covering the face. I thought that would be ideal for creating a badass character to go into dungeon crawls or boss fights, so of course I went for it. When you go into town to mingle with other townsfolk or shop at the local market, the problem is, your face has done its worst, it looks completely out of place, and it's really an immersive killer.

The options are basically not using war paint, or using the ShowRaceMenu command in the console. ShowRaceMenu works, but to me it's a bit annoying - open the console, enter the command, don't misspell it or do it again, correct the changes it automatically makes to the face, make the changes, enter your character's name again, then exit the game. I can't even count how many times I've done this, and as a changer, you know we always want to get away from things that annoy us.

If you've ever browsed the Papyrus wiki, you've probably seen the ShowLimitedRaceMenu command. Whenever I see it, my reaction is always the same, "Well, I really have to do something about it one day." My first thought was to put it on a mirror in the house, it would be a "mirror on the wall, who's fairest?" kind of thing. It's not a bad idea, but it won't really solve the access problem. What I want is easy access to the contest menu, no matter where I am, anytime and anywhere for free. The obvious answer is to put the script on a small mirror you carry around - equip the mirror and the match menu appears. In order for it to be equipment, it needs to be a wearable item, so it's actually a ring. It doesn't look like a ring and doesn't use ring grooves so it won't interfere with other rings, but it is a ring and that's how it works. The stock item itself is nothing particularly noteworthy, just a cheap redesigned silver plate, but it gets the job done, although one day I may wish to improve its appearance. "

Where do I get it?

"It can be used in blacksmithing under jewelry. You need 1 silver ingot, 1 firewood, and 1 leather strip." (Optional file edits the recipe to 1 firewood, 1 leather strip, 2 refined malachite, and 5 glass)

How do I use it?

"Equip it in your inventory and the menu will open. You can like it and hotkey it outside of the inventory menu, which is how I like to use it, making it more convenient. You never have to cancel it because no outfit is exactly the same and it will open the menu. The reason I set it up What I found was that I kept forgetting to unequip it so when I used it again I had to unequip it first and then re-equip it, which was annoying so I left it open on the equip menu or not using it since it doesn't use any slots so equipping it doesn't cost you anything."

Is it compatible with the RaceMenu plugin mod?

"Yes, it works with the vanilla menu or the Race Menu mod, but if you use the race menu mod then you'd better make sure your load order is set correctly. When I first tried using the Race Menu mod, I got CTDs entirely because of my load order. It's very simple and common sense, SkyUI loads before RaceMenu, and RaceMenu loads befor …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
