Description: The transformations in the picture are physical - the effect will be better with this MOD - Vanilla Hair - Salt and Wind
The goal of this project is to add nice looking physics to vanilla hair while keeping the original style and not ruining your fps. It started with a very brief attempt to add physics directly to the original mesh, but they weren't made for that. Most of them are single sheets of paper. No volume, no division. When it moves, this looks bad.
So I made a brand new mesh using the same style, specifically designed to look good in motion, and I love it. I made some more and here we are. My goal is to add more hairstyles in time, but this is a very ambitious and time-consuming project that will most likely never be completed.
The core value of this project is to maintain a reasonable balance between quality and performance. This mod is not suitable for high-end systems. This is for everyone. Physics are highly optimized. It'll go through the ground, through your hands, through your spouse's private parts, but to me it's so rare that it's not worth paying for every frame. Likewise, the vertex count of the mesh is higher than Vanilla, but lower than, for example, High-poly Vanilla Hair and KS or other high-quality hair models. It's not the prettiest hair, but my goal isn't to be pretty. I want to be grungy. I don't want my character to look like a shampoo commercial. I wanted them to look like they just punched a bear in the face.
feature
Replaces 7 original hairstyles: Nord01, Nord03, Nord05, Nord06, Nord08, Nord12, DarkElf01. Includes male, female and all existing elven versions.
(Optional) SMP support, optimized for gaming.
Affects vanilla NPCs (no physics) via a separate optional download.
Includes wigs (HairNord01, etc.), allowing you to give SMP hair to selected NPCs. These have the same racial restrictions as regular hair. Note that you'll need some other mod solution to provide the correct hair color for these.
Can be labeled as light ESP
Note: The SMP version of the Nord12 (ponytail) is a separate hairstyle (the replacement version has no physics). The reason for this design is that this hairstyle uses collision, which requires additional parts to be attached. Doing this with vanilla hairstyles can run into compatibility issues.
texture
The new hairstyle uses a vanilla texture, so any replacement will work. For all my shots (and most of my testing) I used Vanilla Hair - Salt and Wind. Personally, I think the new hair looks better and has a smoother texture. Vanilla textures don't look good when you repeat them multiple times. There's enough roughness in the new mesh that even though the texture is smooth, you can still get that grungy look.
compatibility
Can be used in combination with other hair alternatives
NPC files should be loaded before any mod that edits NPCs
If you want to combine new hairstyles with NPC edits from other mods, or get new hairstyles on NPCs added by mods, you must generate a new facial data file. Vanilla Hair Replacer has a great article on how to do this. Be sure to back up existing files first. NOTE: You should only use the no-SMP version to generate face data. You can then switch to SMP.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
