Non-SSE version:
This mod adds Valyrian steel weapons from George R.R. Martin's book series A Song of Ice and Fire. The resolution of the texture is 2K.
This mod is a work in progress. It is in working condition, but currently only includes seven swords. I hope to eventually include all the Valerian steel weapons mentioned in A Song of Ice and Fire, but that's a long process.
feedback
The models and textures are based entirely on the descriptions in the books (which, insofar as they are described in the books, are often beautifully detailed). If you don't think they look right based on the show alone, keep them to yourself.
That said, any other comments, suggestions, requests or even complaints would be greatly appreciated; I'd really like to improve this mod.
Please provide honest reviews and/or ratings, preferably after trying the items. If you choose to give this mod a negative review, all I ask is that you take the time to explain your complaint.
Power supply summary
The weapons added by this mod are certainly powerful, but I've tried my best to make sure they aren't overpowered. If you find that they are over-performing, please let me know so I can change their stats.
Currently, they all have increased speed ("Swords are fast. Such is the nature of Valyrian steel." Lord Randir Tarly). Ice is the slowest with a speed of 0.7750 (Vanilla Greatsword: 0.7500) because it is a greatsword with 35 base damage (Dragonbone Greatsword: 25).
If you find these stats OP, check out the "Production Information" section below. You may change your mind.
current progress
Currently, the mod includes Lord Edward Stark's greatsword Ice; Lord Randir Tarly's longsword Jon Snow's bastard sword Longclaw (originally owned by House Mormont); the Valyrian steel Arakh used by the sword-selling captain Caggo; Jaime Lannister's swordsworn (frozen in the ice and later given to Brienne of Tarth); Visenya The Targaryen sword "Dark Sister"; and the Targaryen King's sword Blackfyre.
Long Claw Mechanics
Longclaw, a bastard/"half-handed" sword that can be used with one or two hands. To wield it with two hands, equip the "Longclaw (two-handed equipment)" item on your left hand. Longclaw will then act as a greatsword, dealing 25% extra damage, capable of blocking and dealing 20% critical damage.
Although Longclaw does 1H-2H switching, this module does not require SKSE. That said, my dependency-free solution isn't perfect; waving the long claw with one hand results in slightly weird animations (looks good, but is weird). This is because although only one hand is required, it is still animated to use two hands, meaning the player will be holding his/her left hand weapon or fending off the Longclaw. It doesn't look wrong per se, but it's weird. There's no way to avoid this AFAIK (no SKSE required).
The Longclaw's two-handed item can be freely crafted (with the Arcane Blacksmith and Dragon Armor perks on Skyforge), has no damage, no value, no weight, and no model, but wielding it makes the Longclaw essentially two handed swords in appearance and functionality. Longclaw will still be considered one-handed for skill expansion and training purposes (I will try to change this, but it's not a high priority). Support items do nothing if the Longclaw is not equipped.
Process information
All Valyrian steel weapons require an "ingot" type item called a "Spellforged Blade". Remember, despite the name, the recipe doesn't use just one. This item can be found anywhere ingots are likely to be found, as a random item, starting at level 42 (yes, this is intentional), and appearing more at levels 46 and 50.
Felforged Blades can also be crafted from Skyforge daggers, steel ingots, dragon scales, and dragon bones. This requires the Smithing perks …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
