Adds a spell to the game to unlock locked items based on skills other than draft skills.

I've ported willkydd's Unlock Spell to SSE, which really just involved opening it in the Creation Kit and making sure the script compiled and saved. All credit goes to willkydd :)

Of all the Unlock type spells I've found for Skyrim, this is my favorite, so I thought it would be nice to list it under SSE. Thanks!

Adds spells to the game to unlock locked items based on Alteration, Destruction, 1-hand, 2-hand and/or Marksman skills. Apparently lock picking works too.

Note: As opposed to Midas' Transmute Lock, this does not require you to click on the lock to unlock it. You aim your spell at the lock from a distance and open it. I think due to the way CK works, it's currently not possible to target spells immediately, which is the off time I could use the old Morrowind Unhinge Lock spell.

  • How to obtain - By purchasing it from Farengar (Whiterun's Court Wizard) or by finding and reading the book "Unhinging Mind" in the lower right corner of the librarian at Mage's College. This book contains some wonderful ways to introduce spells.
  • Its function: Unlock locked items near the point of spell influence. If the unlocking is successful, you will hear the sound of unlocking. If the unlocking fails, you will hear the sound of unlocking.
  • How to determine if the lock will open

It looks at the player's highest skill in this list (Alter, Break, 1 Hand, 2 Hand, Marksman, Lockpicking) and compares it to the lock's level (25 = Novice, 50 = Proficient, 75 = Expert, 100 = Master). If higher, the spell will open the lock, otherwise not. Even if your skill is above 100, doors/locks that "require a key" will never be opened with this spell.

==========================================================

Adds a spell to the game to unlock locked items based on Alteration, Destruction, 1 Hand, 2 Hand and/or Marksman skills. Lockpicking works as well, obviously.

Note: as opposed to Midas' Transmute Lock, this doesn't require that you click the lock to unlock it. You aim the spell at the lock from afar and open it like that. An instant targeted spell is not possible at the moment I think, due to how CK works, this is the closes I could get to the old Morrowind Unhinge Lock spell.

  • Way to obtain - find and read book "Unhinging Mind", either by buying from Farengar (court wizard in Whiterun) or found in the bottom right part of the desk of the librarian from the Mage's College. The book contains some lore-friendly way to introduce the spell.
  • What it does: it unlocks locked items close to the point of impact of the spell. If unlock succeeds you should hear a lock open sound, if it fails you should hear a lockpick breaking sound.
  • How it determines if a lock will open or not

It looks at the highest skill the player has from among this list (alteration, destruction, 1 hand, 2 hand, marksman, lockpicking) and compares that against the level of the lock (25 = novice, 50 = adept, 75 = expert, 100 = master). If it's higher the spell will open the lock, otherwise it won't. The 'needs key' doors/locks will never open with this spell even if your skills are higher than 100.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
